What You Hate About AI Is Not Really About AI

The complaints about data centers fall into four buckets: power, water, fear of the machines, and foreign meddling.
In each, the story being told is not quite the one the facts support, and it’s important to remember that what the opponents are angry about isn’t really the data centers or AI.
They’re angry about things which are related, if tangentially, but are mostly reasons to lean into AI and simply do this right rather than not at all.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently went on record that closing beaches during the COVID pandemic was “insane” and he regretted not reopening the schools sooner.
Though not on the Nov. 3 ballot, the governor thus provides a helpful guide for voters across the nation.
