Assuming ideological and political change the United Kingdom would be the world's most promising emerging market.
Replying to @Middleton330W
Hard to answer that because at this point they're all being held back by terrible governance, but I'm partial to @SamoBurja's viewpoint that the most unfairly held-back economy of all is the UK.

If you speak to victims of these kinds of crimes you realise that it’s not just lifelong impact for them, it ripples outwards & tears apart entire families. Multigenerational destruction. The human cost of this all is incalculable

Just 18% of individuals who responded to the government's consultation were British citizens. Three quarters were migrants here on a temporary visa. Our immigration policy is now being decided by those who are not even citizens of this country.

This presumably means the dependants brought over will/can be removed? Subject to the ‘right to a family life’ gauntlet of course

BREAKING New immigration requirements for people who want to settle in UK, ie stay here indefinitely, unveiled by @ShabanaMahmood. They are complex - and far tougher than current rules. But there are carve-outs, for most existing care workers, teachers, doctors & high-earners. Here are the key details: MIGRATION - SETTLEMENT RULES - KEY POINTS * Starting point to settle in UK, ie to be able to live, work or study indefinitely, will move from 5 to 10 years, under Earned Settlement model - with some exceptions * Adults with a criminal record, including cautions, will be refused settlement. At present a 12-month prison sentence/suspended prison term is the bar. * Anyone who owes the government money, eg in unpaid tax, will be refused. * People who have accessed “public funds” in last 5 years will be refused. * English as a foreign language requirement will be raised from GCSE-standard to A Level-standard * Life in the UK test will be changed to reflect “life in modern Britain”. * Applicants able to work must earn at least £12,571 for at least 3 years to settle * Couples wishing to settle must earn £25,142 in total * Asylum seekers who arrived in UK legally, were granted protection & went onto work or study may settle after 10 years * Care workers who arrived in UK after May 2025: 10 years LONGER SETTLEMENT PERIOD * Settlement will take 20 years for those who’ve breached immigration rules and for refugees who don’t do “sustained” work, education or training * Those entering UK illegally, eg on a small boat, and who don’t work or study must wait 30 years. SHORTER PERIODS OF SETTLEMENT * People on higher salaries may settle early: £125,141 may qualify for settlement at 3 years, and £50,271 at 5 years * Doctors, nurses, teachers may settle at 5 years * People with a British connection, eg partners, parents, children of UK citizens: 5 years * People who came from Hong Kong and other safe & legal routes route: 5 years * People working in the care sector in May 2025 may settle at 5 years * Care workers who don’t settle at 5 years will be given another chance after 5 more years’ work

Although maybe not, who is to say? Public opinion is a fickle beast and the blob lobbying will be intense. And this is presuming some kind of right leaning government takes power

Really interesting project. I think the open internet is just dead on its feet. It’s not just the push from governments for digital ID but the platforms themselves are going to require it to make it more difficult for agent swarms. People are obviously still going to want to talk anonymously so we end up with some kind of bifurcation between the credentialed net and anonymous forums
W E L C O M E T O L O D G E I’m delighted to announce Urban Tiger’s first product, Lodge, now generally available. To host a lodge, just go to urbit.house. To be a guest, wait till someone invites you! Lodge is “half Eyes Wide Shut, half Chatham House Rules.” It’s a private chat/forum with strong anonymity. Everyone gets a random name from the blockchain. No one, not even you, has any record of who is who. Your forum runs on your private, encrypted cloud server (*). Lodge is for all human beings who cannot speak their true minds if there is any risk that they might be “held accountable.” We do everything possible to prevent doxing. You can even cover your financial tracks with ZCash. (But you don’t need to know anything about crypto.) Who needs a lodge? Your office needs a lodge. Your campus or department. Your agency. Start a lodge, and find a way to get the invite link or QR code to your founding members. Secret societies are a human universal. It doesn’t get more secret than Lodge. To use Lodge, you and your guests install the House web app (app stores don’t like meta-apps). You’ll save your secret with a passkey and back it up with a 6-word poem. Your name is also a wallet, which holds its own token. (But you don’t need to know anything about crypto.) Lodge is the first app on Urban Tiger’s new version of Urbit. Unlike the old Urbit experience (Tlon Messenger), urbit.house is both fully noncustodial, and fully general-purpose. Also, your guests don’t need their own servers. (But if they want to start their own lodges, it only takes a few clicks.) The Lodge UX is “half forum, half chat.” Like a forum, it has a timeline tree. Like a chat, it flows through your unreads. The design was inspired by the original social network, Usenet. On a desktop you even “doomspace,” like it was 1986. You’ll be billed for your server in crypto—by usage, not time (since it’s a functional server). It’s cheap. And you can charge dues. Check it out: urbit.house (*—the servers aren’t encrypted quite yet. Give us a couple more weeks to spin up the TEEs. Then we’ll destroy the old cleartext.)

If you wanted to start a business right now I’d probably look into optics/sensor manufacturing. We’re going to deploy millions of robots over the next few decades & there’s no way governments are going to have robots with Chinese eyes wandering around our shit. No fucking way

Also just at a base level, springs, actuators and so on. You would be astonished at just how difficult it is to get this stuff competitively from western suppliers & I see ‘decoupling’ going only one way

Anyone that’s worked in critical infrastructure knows that all our shit has long been Swiss cheesed, and we were basically in a MAD scenario where other state actors also knew their shit was. But now these capabilities are available to non state actors, real dark forest stuff
I’ve basically always been an AI optimist but we have to admit the doomers were right about cyber risks, and if they were right about cyber risks they might be right about bioengineering risks, and therefore extinction

Also very thankful that the security state has likely been backdooring our shit for decades to spy on us relying on the fact that nobody else would find it. Oops!

I still think humanity in general is going to be very, very hard to kill off completely. But anyone that’s watching what’s happening and isn’t worried at this point isn’t paying attention

AI has made software supply chain attacks exceptionally easy. A lot (most) open source projects are not going to have the kind of money needed to audit every single contribution. We’re probably going to need some kind of whitehat group autonomously scanning them. We need netwatch

This is before we even get into physical supply chain attacks. Which was previously only really possible by state actors & is now well within the capability domain of blackhat/terror groups. The bar in general is so much lower now than it was just months ago. Really concerning
