Fred Armisen claims he can master any accent from any region or town in the world. "Yes, I can do any accent accurately, you can check up on it. This paragraph by Kobe Bryant hits hard: “Everyone wants to be a beast. Everyone wants to be the best. But very few people are willing to do what it actually takes. Because what it takes is boring. It is waking up at 4:00 AM. It is shooting the same shot a thousand times. It is watching the film when you are tired. People fall in love with the result, but they hate the process. You have to fall in love with the boredom. You have to fall in love with the repetition. If you can find joy in the mundane work that no one else sees, the lights will eventually shine on you.”

Elon Musk on why his companies move faster than anyone else. "I'm constantly addressing the limiting factor. Whatever the limiting factor is on speed, I'm going to tackle that. If capital is the limiting factor, I'll solve for capital. If it's not the limiting factor, I'll solve for something else." He then said something most managers never figure out: "If something is going really well and making good progress, there's no point in me spending time on it.The irony is if something's going really well, they don't see much of me. But if something is the limiting factor, they'll see a lot of me." He spends his time entirely on whatever is blocking the next step. Not on what's interesting or what he's best at. But on whatever is the bottleneck right now. Most leaders do the opposite... They gravitate toward what they're comfortable with and away from the hard problem.

Nick Saban says his dad had a rule when he worked at the family service station as an 11 year old that he carried into coaching, if you didn’t do the job right you did it again “Treat people the way you want to be treated... That was number one... The second thing was accountability. We grew up with a lot of responsibility. I worked at my dad’s service station from the time I was 11 years old.” “I don’t care what the task was, there was always a reckoning. Did you cut the grass? Did you trim? Did you sweep? Did you clean the mower? And if you didn’t do all those things right, you had to do it over.” “I remember my dad saying to me, ‘If you don’t have the time to do it right the first time, how are you going to find the time to do it over?’” “Because you are going to do it over. So accountability was really important. And the last thing was, and this was probably the thing that helped me always look for the next challenge was, no matter how many games you win, it’s never good enough... I asked my mom, ‘it’s never good enough, how come?’ And she said ‘It’s not about beating the other guy, it’s about, did you play as good as you could play.’ We're you as good as you can be? As a leader, as a player, as a teammate.”

Larry David reveal he almost quit Seinfeld after executives tried to change the show Host: Was there ever a moment when they gave you notes on the show and you said, “I’m out, i’m done, i’m not doing this, i’m leaving”? Larry David: “Oh, yeah, they gave us their ideas for the next season, things they didn’t like and things they did like” Host: You weren’t going to follow any of their notes? Larry David: “ i wasn’t doing any of it, and i was quitting” Jerry Seinfeld: “I was just so entertained. He said, ‘this is what the show’s about, and we’re not changing it’” Larry David: “I said that in the meeting, yeah.” Jerry Seinfeld: “We wanted to do a show about absurd little conversations. We didn’t want big plots…which, of course, we ended up having anyway” Host: “How long was the meeting?” Larry David: “Short, he would always calm me down, he’d say, ‘don’t worry, it’ll be fine.’”

Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David reveal how Seinfeld created everyday phrases like “close talker,” “double dip,” “yada, yada, yada,” and “master of my domain.” Host: “The phrase I’ve used with you, ‘close talker.’ How did you come up with that one?” Larry David: “There’s probably 200 in the audience tonight. Just people who have no sense that they’re talking like this to you, and you have to keep backing up until you fall.” Host: “A close talker.” Larry David: “Yeah. But there’s not only close talkers. There’s loud talkers.” Host: “Okay, regift. Where did that come from?” Larry David: “That was Burger, Chafer, regift.” Co-host: “How about double dip? I didn’t know this kind of happened from Seinfeld.” Larry David: “You dip once and end it.” Host: “Everybody uses the phrase ‘blank Nazi.’ Soup Nazi, this Nazi…” Jerry Seinfeld: “We were asking, ‘What’s going on in New York?’ And [Spike Feresten] said, ‘For lunch, we go to this place that the guy’s really hostile, and they call him a soup Nazi.’ And we went, ‘Let’s hear more about that.’” Larry David: “It’s amazing how often writers would be talking, and they didn’t know that they had gold.” Host: “Who came up with yada, yada, yada?” Jerry Seinfeld: “Peter Mehlman.” Host: “And one of the greats of all time, ‘master of my domain.’” Jerry Seinfeld: “That came from us playing with not using the word masturbation. We thought it would be more fun to just slalom around it.”
