Situated in Gem Constituency, Siaya County, Ramula derives its name from an origin of a Luo name 'mula', meaning gold. But the gold beneath this land has has brewed a high-stakes struggle where corporate interests, state machinery and local livelihoods collide over ancestral gold rich land. #LandGoldandPower

Unhealed trauma mixed with emotional isolation and charismatic manipulation can lead to total psychological control.
Watch Francis Kathambana unpack how emotional gaps get weaponized against everyday people on this episode of
#TheBigPicturePodcast.
Today, the Siaya Environment and Land Court ruling halted prospecting, drilling and mining on private land in Ramula/Munungo area in Siaya without explicit landowner consent, flagged flaws in the 2019 prospecting licence and restricted resettlement outside the Mining Act.
This is a huge win as community petitions on property rights have been upheld.
The #LandGoldandPower documentary highlighted how Shanta Gold’s delisting and shift to Mauritius entities reduced public scrutiny over the Ramula gold project, alongside community concerns over forged consent and forced displacement.
After acquiring exploration rights in Siaya for $14.5 million, Shanta Gold was delisted from the London Stock Exchange. Ownership was transferred to Mauritius registered entities, removing mandatory ongoing public reporting obligations.
This offshore restructuring has left local communities in gold rich Ramula with little public financial scrutiny and visibility into the true value extracted from their land.

Indeed colonial surveyors already knew Lake Naivasha levels rise and fall and they marked the contour for a reason. Titles came later anyway under the Kenyatta and Moi governments.
In #MyFathersLand, we followed families in Kihoto who inherited that land, got the titles, had building plans approved, paid rates and taxes and had built homes. Now the lake is reclaiming it, including even ancestral graves.
