8. Something to look forward to — every week.
A dinner. A hike. Coffee with a friend. A book you'll finish Sunday.
Hope is not soft.
Anticipation regulates the nervous system.

1. The commute.
Your nervous system never fully adapts to a long daily drive the way it adapts to a new couch.
Minutes on the road don't compound into wealth. They compound into cortisol.
Live closer when you can. Or reclaim a few work-from-home days.
That time is medicine.

Wajahat Ali: "Vivek & Kash Patels were those nerdy, dorky guys... They said, 'One of these days, I'm gonna make a lot of money. And I'm gonna have sex with a white woman'... He thought the whites would take him. But the whites will never, ever accept the Vivek Ramaswamy."

A psychologist named Arthur Aron created a specific list of 36 questions designed to create intense closeness between complete strangers in a laboratory setting.
He discovered that you can accelerate the bonding process by following a systematic, step-by-step ladder of disclosure.

2. That first hour after waking matters
It's one of the most valuable fasting windows you have.
Eating right away shortens it before your body gets the benefit.

If you routinely do things that you know will make you miserable, exhausted, or frustrated 30 minutes later, you're trapped in an unthinking lever-press sequence.
Here are 3 simple steps to break out of that loop: 🧵

TL;DR:
1) Drink 16 to 32 oz of water on waking
2) Get sunlight within an hour of waking
3) Exercise in the first 3 hours of your day
4) Use a physiological sigh when stressed
5) Get daylight again in the late afternoon
6) Eat some starch at your last meal
7) Take a hot shower before bed
8) Go screen-free 30 minutes before sleep
9) Do 10 long exhales if you wake at 3 a.m.
10) Try the eye trick to fall back asleep

9) Do 10 long exhales if you wake up at 3 a.m.
Long exhales slow your heart rate. Huberman says he does this himself after a middle-of-the-night bathroom trip.
It also helps to keep your bedroom as dark as possible. He suggests an eye mask.

Andrew Huberman has two free tricks for when you wake up at 3 A.M.
He says most people's cortisol is too high at night, when sleep needs it low.
He shared 10 daily protocols to fix that, and the tricks come last:
1) Drink 16 to 32 ounces of water on waking

"Just trust us" is a bad police communications strategy when all the public knows is that a suspect in a violent home invasion was questioned by police in hospital, and then sent on his way theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

Older muscle needs more protein in a single meal to get the same building response as younger muscle. In older men, muscle building kept climbing with protein doses well past the point where it had already maxed out in younger men.
Older muscle is less responsive to small amounts of protein, so a light meal that works fine for a 20-year-old may do very little for a 70-year-old.
If someone is hoping to hold onto muscle with age, it's clear that each meal needs a generous serving of protein, and that need grows over the years.

It's rare to find your purpose for life, so instead look for your purpose for this season.
What lights you up right now? What's a good thing to dedicate this season of your life to? Perhaps more importantly, what purpose served you well in your previous season, but you have outgrown?
Life is always changing. It's okay to pick a new North Star.

13 minutes of this a day will improve your focus:
- Close your eyes and focus on your breathing for 13 minutes
- Do it daily, but skipping a day still leaves benefits
- Wendy Suzuki's lab at NYU found it enhances focus, mood, sleep and cognitive performance
- Even 5 minutes a day has outsized effects, from work with Dr. David Spiegel at Stanford
- Treat it as focus training, not mindfulness: refocus on your breath every time your mind drifts
- A wandering mind is an unhappy mind, and refocusing all day raises happiness

The 5-minute breathing protocol that beat meditation:
- Double inhale through the nose, then a long passive exhale to lungs empty
- The second inhale snaps collapsed alveoli open so you offload more carbon dioxide
- 5 minutes a day, the minimal effective dose, in over 100 subjects
- Tested against sitting meditation, box breathing and cyclic hyperventilation
- Cyclic sighing won on mood around the clock, not just during the practice
- It also lowered resting heart rate and improved sleep on 24-hour tracking

Researchers found an easy way to trigger the will to act, and it starts with finding a choice, almost any choice, that lets you feel like you're the one steering.
The specific decision matters less than the fact that you're the one making it.
