πͺ Pandora Chain 2024 Development Thread
2024 marks the first year of our public operations. We became active here on X in March and started unrolling our story. In June, after 2 years of R&D by Pandora Swiss Technology Lab, we launched the mainnet. 1/

11. Why are addresses on Pandora Chain the same as on Ethereum?
Many public chains choose to use the Ethereum address format for a number of reasons:
1. Standardization and compatibility: the Ethereum address format has become the standard in the blockchain industry, especially in public chains that support smart contracts and DApps. This address format allows for compatibility with existing Ethereum tools and wallets (e.g. MetaMask), lowering the threshold for users of new public chains.
2. Ecosystem maturity: the Ethereum ecosystem is 10 years in the making and 8 years in operation. It has a large number of developers and huge user support. Using the Ethereum address format, developers can directly use Ethereum's infrastructure and tools (Ethers.js, Web3.js, etc.), speed up development progress, and reduce development costs.
3. Technological maturity: Ethereum addresses are based on the Keccak-256 algorithm; and the process of generating addresses from public keys is simple and secure. Any Ethereum address is 42 characters long (starting with "0x" and followed by 40 hexadecimal characters), short and easy to use, identify, and operate. It has been widely accepted and verified.
4. Support for ERC-20 tokens: Many new public chains require not only basic address formats, but also compatibility with Ethereum's ERC-20 standard or similar standards to support the issuance and management of tokens. The adoption of the Ethereum address format makes it easier for these new public chains to implement ERC-20-compatible functions, helping their ecosystems develop rapidly.
5. User familiarity: Most blockchain users are already accustomed to the Ethereum address format starting with "0x." Using the same format helps improve user acceptance and trust and reduce the learning cost for new public chains.
Therefore, many new public chains and Pandora Chain in particular have adopted the Ethereum address format in their designs to be compatible with the Ethereum ecosystem and attract existing users.
