CSIR–IIIM Jammu | Skill Development & Entrepreneurship
CSIR–IIIM, through its Atal Incubation Centre (AIC-IIIM), inaugurated a One-Month Skill Development Training Programme in Leather Technology at Srinagar, in collaboration with Kashmir Government Polytechnic College.
Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM Jammu and Chairman, AIC-IIIM Bioinnovation Foundation, encouraged participants to utilise the training to explore entrepreneurial opportunities and establish their own ventures. He assured full institutional support and handholding to aspiring entrepreneurs.
With around 14 candidates participating, the programme aims to provide hands-on technical training, industry-oriented skills and entrepreneurial exposure, fostering self-employment and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The initiative reflects CSIR-IIIM’s continued commitment to empowering youth through skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship.

CSIR–IIIM Jammu Concludes Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 with Valedictory Ceremony
CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu, organised the valedictory ceremony of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 on October 30, under the theme “Probity for Prosperity.”
Sh. Anil Mangotra, Deputy Director Prosecution, Anti-Corruption Bureau, J&K (UT), attended as the Guest and delivered an insightful lecture on “Probity for Prosperity,” highlighting the importance of integrity, ethical conduct, transparency and accountability in public life and institutional functioning.
Director, CSIR–IIIM Jammu and CSIR–NBRI Lucknow, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, also addressed the gathering and emphasised that integrity and accountability must be practised in everyday professional responsibilities and should extend beyond the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation and prizes to the winners of various competitions organised as part of the week-long observance, recognising their active participation and commitment to promoting ethical values.

CSIR–IIIM | Ph.D. Achievement
CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu, congratulates Ms. Nargis Ayoub, a Ph.D. scholar under the AcSIR programme, on successfully defending her Ph.D. thesis titled “Development of Biotransformation Processes for the Production of Value-added Compounds from Limonene.”
Her research was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, with Dr. Vikash Babu as her Ph.D. Co-guide.
Dr. Praveen Kumar Mehta, Professor, Centre for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala, India, served as the External Expert for the viva voce.
This achievement reflects the institute’s commitment to scientific excellence, innovation and impactful research in biotransformation processes and the development of value-added compounds.

CSIR–IIIM Jammu | Vigilance Awareness Week 2026
As part of the ongoing Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, being observed from October 26 to November 1 under the theme “Probity for Prosperity,” CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR–IIIM), Jammu, organised a lecture on “Effective Use of E-Office Modules” on October 30.
Sh. Abhishek Chandra, Under Secretary, CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi, delivered the lecture, highlighting the effective use of digital office systems to promote transparency, accountability and efficiency in administrative processes.
The session aimed to familiarise participants with the effective utilisation of E-Office modules and reinforce the importance of digital governance and procedural integrity in institutional functioning.

CSIR–IIIM Jammu successfully concluded the five-day health screening camp under the Phenome India – CSIR Health Cohort Knowledge Base (PI-CHeCK) initiative at its Srinagar Branch Laboratory on October 29, 2026.
Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR–IIIM Jammu, highlighted the initiative’s role in understanding the health patterns of the Indian population and advancing disease prevention, early diagnosis and personalised healthcare.
The camp witnessed the voluntary participation of 60 employees, pensioners and their spouses.

“The Study, “Stereodivergent double Thia-Michael diversification of parthenin enables reduced cytotoxicity with retained anti-inflammatory activity.
The research demonstrates a one-pot double Thia-Michael addition for the dual functionalization of parthenin, affording strictly substrate-controlled C-7 selectivity.
The study successfully uncouples cytotoxicity from efficacy, yielding lead candidate 2a which shows potent NO inhibition, dose-dependent suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α), strong iNOS binding, and excellent ADMET profiles with eliminated mutagenic liability.

Visited different stalls at the Exhibition put up at the "Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave" #ESTIC2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
The exhibition features selected 50 deep-tech StartUps, 13 departmental stalls and 10 departmental technologies, reflecting the breadth of India’s scientific and technological capabilities.
Among the exhibits, for example, is CSIR Designer Rice with high-protein, low-glycaemic-index particularly for use by those having Diabetes, developed at CSIR–National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram.
There is , for instance, an interesting StartUp developed Brain Electrode for management of Parkinson’s disease.
The exhibition also showcases JEET, the SCMC4212 microcontroller unit developed by Signalchip, reflecting India's growing capabilities in indigenous semiconductor and electronic-system design.
Other displays include bio-based packaging and reusable or application-specific products, illustrating the wider scope of innovation in materials and sustainability.
The @narendramodi government has consistently reaffirmed its commitment to help StartUps link with industry.

Day 3: CSIR-IIIM Jammu Continues Health Check-up Camp Under Phenome India Initiative
CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, continued its health check-up camp under the Phenome India – CSIR Health Cohort Knowledge Base (PI-CHeCK) initiative on October 27, 2026.
Under the leadership of Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM Jammu and CSIR-NBRI Lucknow, the three-day initiative promotes preventive healthcare and contributes to nationwide research aimed at understanding the health patterns of the Indian population.
The camp caters to the institute’s serving employees, pensioners and their spouses, with health assessments including lung function tests, liver and kidney function tests, complete blood count (CBC) and lipid profile.
Coordinated by Dr. Sumit G. Gandhi in collaboration with the PI-CHeCK team from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), the initiative supports research in early disease detection and personalised healthcare.

CSIR-IIIM Jammu Organises Training Programme on Fire & Lab Safety
As part of Vigilance Awareness Week 2026, CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, organised a Training Programme on Fire & Lab Safety on October 27 to promote safety awareness and strengthen emergency preparedness in laboratory and workplace environments.
Under the leadership of Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM Jammu and CSIR-NBRI Lucknow, the programme featured an interactive session and live demonstrations by the Station Officer and fire safety experts from Fire & Emergency Services, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Participants were familiarised with the safe handling of fire extinguishers, operation of fire hose reels, fire alarm systems and emergency response procedures.
The initiative highlighted the importance of preventive safety measures, proper handling of fire safety equipment and timely response to emergencies, reinforcing CSIR-IIIM’s commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for scientists, researchers and staff.
