We sell China petroleum and low-value commodities. 🇮🇳 They sell India nearly $40 billion in electronics components, telecom instruments, and organic chemicals/ APIs. 🇨🇳 Backed by weaponised mineral quotas, this is a structural chokehold on India’s manufacturing ambitions. ⚔️ Why Non-Tariff Barriers are the real battlefield in India–China trade. And India’s counter playbook: • The asymmetric flow: India’s top imports from China: $14.5 bn electronics components, $13.8 bn telecom instruments, $11.5 bn organic chemicals. India’s top exports: $2.7 bn telecom instruments and $2.5 bn petroleum products. Share of China in India’s imports: 16.97%. In exports: just 4.41%. • The regulatory moat: Chinese goods clear Indian customs with relative ease. Indian exporters face non-acceptance of international lab reports, duplicate testing, opaque sanitary barriers on bovine meat and shrimp, and forced disclosure of proprietary data in cosmetics. • The critical minerals choke: China’s refining dominance in germanium, gallium and specialised lithium-battery materials is actively used via export licences and quotas, directly hitting timelines and costs for Indian semiconductors, solar and EV battery plants. • The counter-playbook: Polite requests for market access will not work. India’s response is accelerating on three fronts: A. Securing overseas mineral assets through KABIL. B. Scaling domestic processing and recycling via S&T-PRISM. C. Deploying reciprocal Quality Control Orders to filter non-compliant imports. Tariff walls are visible. Regulatory and mineral chokepoints are systemic. Manufacturing sovereignty requires breaking single-geography dependence on upstream processing. @nsitharaman @PiyushGoyal @minesminindia @investindia Data : @ctil_india #MakeInIndia #CriticalMinerals #TradePolicy #ChinaTrade #StrategicAutonomy
