Black History Month began 100 years ago as Negro History Week. Carter G. Woodson created this week to correct the record of Black contributions. A century later, the fight to tell the full truth about our history continues. This month, we honor the legacy. And we protect it.

Claiming one group is unfairly hurt by civil rights is an old divide-and-conquer tactic. Our #2026CivilRightsMonitor poll shows it isn’t working: our communities are aligned, and attacks on one strengthen our unity. @MayaWiley and @CornellBelcher:

Voters deserve more than empty promises. In our Civil Rights Monitor poll, voters told us they’re waiting for leaders bold enough to take on both affordability & the fight to protect our rights.

The midterms aren’t only about the high costs of living. Our newest Civil Rights Monitor shows voters care just as deeply about protecting their rights, and they’re waiting for leaders bold enough to take on both. @mayawiley and @cornellbelcher: amny.com/opinion/what-voters…

Dolores Huerta was a beacon of hope for civil rights in this country and a leader who demonstrated that women lead and that labor rights are civil rights. Our country is better because of her work, and we commit to continuing her legacy. civilrights.org/2026/10/28/d…

17 years ago, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act became law, protecting the LGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities. Our government has more responsibility than ever to protect communities still facing violence.

Eight years ago, a gunman murdered 11 worshipers at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue in an attack rooted in white supremacy and antisemitic, anti-immigrant conspiracy theories. We remember the lives lost. No one should be fearful to worship freely.

ICE supervisor Brenden Cuni was named in multiple lawsuits alleging violent arrests. So why was he armed at the scene where ICE officers shot Oscar Belgal with his 5-year-old son in the car? ICE’s reign of terror needs to end. bit.ly/4juW0Hj

Emiliano Andrade-Covarrubias is the seventh person to die in ICE detention in Texas this year and the second in Laredo. He was a lawful permanent resident with a right to dignity and due process. We demand a full, independent investigation. bit.ly/4zLB5ob

What do voters want from civil rights organizations like ours? Our new 2026 Civil Rights Monitor, a national poll of likely voters, has the answer, and it's a vote of confidence in our work. See the findings: civilrights.org/2026/09/30/c…

Since January 2025, the U.S. Justice Department has dismissed 57 desegregation orders, 45 of them in the South. Without these orders, there is no guaranteed equal funding or access to advanced courses. Brown v. Board must be enforced, not erased.

Every car that passes a Flock camera goes into a searchable log — and far too often that access is abused by law enforcement. In Harris County, TX, leaders took residents' concerns seriously and will remove 60+ cameras. We need more independent oversight.

Trump named an AI czar, yet there’s still no federal law broadly regulating AI. Seems backward? That’s because it is. We need Congress to set guardrails and maintain oversight of AI to ensure we can hold companies accountable and protect people.

The Trump regime is so desperate to seize control and hold on to power that they’re trying to manufacture a crisis about Californians improperly voting or being improperly registered to vote. They do this to create a pretext for denying election results they don’t like.

This is part of the authoritarian playbook. Manufacture a crisis, confuse voters, and hope voters stay home. But we won’t let that deter us. Your vote is your voice. They cannot silence yours.
