There are workers whose names we will never know in every sector of industry, element of the arts, discipline of academia, on every continent of the globe who have contributed more to a productive society than Sam Altman, Peter Thiel, Elon Musk or any other billionaire ever will.
A computer can never be held accountable
Therefore a computer must never make a management decision
— IBM, 1979
But that isn’t the whole story. We can hold accountable the people who control, program and finance the machines that make the decisions that impact us.
Replying to @Pontifex
Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.
It’s bad that Sam Altman’s lungs use the world’s limited supply of oxygen.
Techno-capitalism, techno-optimism and e/acc are billionaire ideologies that keep workers down & destroy the environment.
Not to mention he abused his sister Annie who’s gotten no justice. Criminal.
Sam Altman says its bad that everyone's personal computers are using the world's limited supply of memory chips.
"It’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAMs sitting in their own computer, and being used 5% of the time. Like, you want maximum utilization."
I’m somewhere in the 40-50 age range and my friends aren’t discussing this or the GitLab 10.0 without me promoting it. Should I be concerned?

The first incident has ZERO to do with AI — the cert authority used 4 bit entropy instead of 384 🫠.
In the second, AI is heavily on the defense side of a long-existing problem finally being fixed.
AI creates issues but important to understand them right.
Patch your software.
Two classes extremely bad cyber vulnerabilities disclosed in the last 24 hours. The first potentially impacts everyone online. The second impacts nearly everyone running a server.
tl;dr: Everyone should upgrade their OS and Browser as soon as possible. If you run a server you should upgrade PHP (or ensure it’s removed if you’re not using it) as soon as possible.
The first class of vulnerabilities is a set of root TLS certificates that were discovered to have a trivial private key. Literally the number 4. These roots were controlled by #eMudhra. The problem is that with that an attacker could create a certificate and, if they could get in the traffic flow, intercept traffic to any site or service. The solution is to stop trusting certificates issued by these vulnerable roots. Upgrading your browser and OS is the fastest way for most Internet users to do this.
The second class of vulnerabilities doesn’t apply to most consumers directly, but does apply to most anyone running a server. These vulnerabilities have been dubbed #php2shell. PHP is one of the most widely used web programming languages. It’s estimated 70% of websites run on PHP. These vulnerabilities allow an attacker to send a crafted set of queries to a server running PHP and potentially take over the server. From there they could potentially read, modify, delete, or repurpose anything on the server. The solution is to upgrade PHP to the latest version ASAP. Even if you’re not using PHP for your web development, it’s often included by default. So make sure it is either upgraded or fully removed.
@Cloudflare received advanced warning of both of these classes of vulnerabilities. We’ve ensured that where we act as a proxy we are no longer trusting the vulnerable roots. We are also reviewing certificate transparency (CT) logs for any sign the vulnerability was exploited before its disclosure. We have not found any evidence but CT logs are not perfect and a sophisticated attacker who knew about the weakness could have exploited it without a new certificate being logged.
For the PHP vulnerabilities, we have deployed mitigations available for all customers for free. Because of the complexity of the vulnerabilities and number of ways it can be exploited, we also released new WAF capabilities that are unique in the industry to catch the exploit based on the response. These too are available for every Cloudflare customer for free.
Even if you are taking advantage of Cloudflare’s protection, it is important to upgrade your OS, browsers, and PHP installations as soon as possible. We can provide a strong bandaid, but the best protection is to fix the underlying problem.

Off private again because we have to talk about PHP2Shell.
So much of the Internet is actually that XKCD cartoon - some project thanklessly maintained by some person for practically no money or recognition. And when things break? All the blame.
Today? 9.2 PHP, 10.0 GitLab, major Node CVSS issues. A ton of moderate to high Drupal module issues. Those are the ones I know about.
Staying up-to-date is exhausting, thankless work. Even if you love tech, knowing big corporations profit from this is frustrating.
AI companies were invited to speak at hacker conference @hopeconf. You won’t believe what happened next!
“And when they learned we would allow— and encourage— audience members to ask questions, the representatives stopped responding to us altogether.”

Yep.
Within the last month, I’ve had sites hit by:
1) a plugin not upgraded automatically, leaving it open to a 0day, and
2) a plugin upgraded automatically after it had been hijacked
Whatever this is, it’s going to be bad. They don’t back port to Drupal 9 and 8 for just any security issue.
And right before a US holiday weekend too!

Idk. Last time Drake performed in New Haven (2009) his girlfriend probably hadn’t even been born yet
Drake mentioned New Haven in one of his three surprise albums that dropped overnight. wtnh.com/news/connecticut/ne…
The @DeptofWar is in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency regarding our government’s understanding of Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.
These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation — and it’s time the American people see it for themselves.
This release of declassified documents demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.
