Spending more money to make a temporary jail permanent won’t reduce crime, and it’s certainly not how we take care of Kansas Citians in crisis.

Kansas City only functions because of the 4,000+ City employees who keep it running around the clock, and ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) like KC Proud make sure all of them know their most authentic self is not just welcomed but celebrated.

I struggled to find locals willing to put their name behind any kind of statement of support for Marshall. Partially a function of small-town politeness, but there is clearly something else going on too. Much more here (gift link): kansascity.com/opinion/opn-c…

When we fund prevention, everybody in the county feels it. Vote yes on Jackson County’s Question 1 to renew the quarter-cent sales tax for another 10 years and keep funding treatment and recovery programs that give people a real path forward.

If you see Fred or one of his siblings around town that’s your sign to slow down and watch out for pedestrians.

Just because we don't have local control doesn't mean we can't be loud. Tell me what you want to see in the next police chief.

Paid sick leave, health insurance, and respect isn’t asking for a lot. It’s what the service workers of Kansas City are owed, and they have earned every bit of it. @moworkerscenter

Hmmm.
Crown Center is a "detriment to public health, safety and welfare," and Hallmark buildings are a "menace to public health, safety and welfare," a new study says. fox4kc.com/news/crown-center…

Soakie’s was Kansas City’s Black gay bar and safe home for many for over a decade and then it was gone. Nasir Montalvo archived it, exhibited it, advocated for it, and Saturday we dedicated a permanent marker on the corner where it stood. Years of work and every flower earned.

It was a gorgeous morning at Rosehill Winery in Martin City for our 6th District meet-up with Councilman McManus! A huge thank you to City Staff from Public Works, Housing, and KCPD for the great information and making this morning a success.

On Sunday, I had the privilege to recognize a story teller, a leader, and a champion for La cultura for over 30 years in Joe Arce most notably known as the publisher of Hispanic News. Joe wanted to be recognized at Fiesta Hispana because “it felt like home.” /1
