📊 Every surgical procedure generates valuable data that can help improve patient care.
Through the EACTS Quality Improvement Programme (QUIP), we're bringing this information together to better understand surgical outcomes, support research and identify opportunities for improvement.
Our databases play an important role in making this possible:
🔹 Adult Cardiac Database (ACD): bringing together clinical data from hospitals across Europe and beyond to support benchmarking and quality improvement.
🔹 Robotic cardiac surgery: a new extension of the ACD is now collecting detailed data on robotically assisted procedures, helping build evidence around their safety, effectiveness and outcomes.
🔹 EUROMACS: collecting data on mechanical circulatory support to advance research and improve our understanding of patient outcomes.
The more we learn from real-world clinical practice, the better equipped we are to identify opportunities for improvement and inform future research.

🎙️ A Cut Above podcast — The new episode is live now!
How much has cardiac surgery changed in the past 40 years?
In the latest episode, Rafael Sádaba, Ernst Wolner and José Luis Pomar take us back to a time of basic operating rooms, limited imaging and major debates over surgical techniques.
From the evolution of coronary and valve surgery to the rise of minimally invasive and robotic approaches, they reflect on the breakthroughs that have transformed the specialty.
But progress also brings new questions. What has been lost as surgery has become more specialised? And what still needs improvement?
Join the conversation as they look back on four decades of change, the lessons learned along the way and why patient care remains at the heart of it all.

💬 Sometimes, one experience can change the direction of your career.
For Tirza Stephany Intor Torres, a 2025 participant, attending the EACTS Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Summit was one of those moments.
It was a chance to discover technologies she hadn’t encountered before, learn from field experts, and meet people who inspired her to take the next step in her training.
That experience led her to pursue clinical observerships in Germany, where she continued building her knowledge of MCS and advanced cardiac surgery.
As we prepare for the 10th EACTS MCS Summit, we’re looking forward to welcoming more people like Tirza, each bringing their own experiences, questions, and ambitions.
