Search, compare, buy, all in one conversation. AI is quickly becoming the new front door to online shopping.
In July 2026, AI-driven retail traffic grew 62% YoY. AI-referred visitors converted at a rate 60% higher than non-AI traffic, a gap that has completely reversed in just one year.
If this continues, e-commerce competition may shift from owning traffic to becoming the product, data source, or checkout destination that AI recommends by default.

#4 GEO-native platforms such as Profound, Peec AI are designed to track what people ask AI, where brands appear, which sources are cited and how competitors perform. They then use these insights to help brands improve their content and visibility.
But tracking visibility is only the first step. The bigger opportunity is showing brands what to change, and whether better AI visibility leads to more website visits, sales and revenue.
The companies that connect AI recommendations to real business results could become an important part of the next generation of marketing tools.
#5 Will GEO become the next SEO? Possibly—but its future depends on whether AI becomes a real shopping channel.
Today, GEO still faces major challenges. AI recommendations can change from one prompt to another, brands remain dependent on a small number of AI platforms, and it is difficult to prove that an AI mention led to a sale.
This also raises a market question: will GEO grow into a standalone software category, or become a standard feature inside larger marketing platforms such as Adobe and Semrush?
Agentic commerce could provide the answer. If AI begins comparing products, placing orders and handling payments, brand visibility will move much closer to the transaction.
Marketing may then shift from buying clicks to making products easy for AI to understand, trust and purchase.
