A prominent Texas Republican is breaking ranks to admit what many voters already know: constant political attacks on transgender people are falling flat.
Dade Phelan, the former Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, says the party's relentless focus on trans issues, particularly trans athletes, is failing to connect with the undecided voters who actually decide elections. With Republicans facing mounting fears of losing political ground in Texas and potentially losing control of the U.S. House, Phelan warned that these campaign strategies are completely out of touch with what everyday people care about.
"We’re still running transgender ads. It’s just not resonating," Phelan admitted in a recent interview. He noted that the 8 to 10% of swing voters in the middle don't relate to the rhetoric, adding, "when they hear stuff about boys in girls’ sports, they don’t even know what you’re talking about."
After years of conservative lawmakers pushing bills to restrict gender-affirming healthcare and target trans participation in sports, Phelan argues the strategy has run its course. For most voters, these political talking points simply don't reflect their daily lives or top priorities.
What are your thoughts on Phelan's comments? Let us know in the comments below.

Chick-fil-A CEO Andrew Cathy went on NBC’s Today show, but when host Craig Melvin pressed him on the company’s history of backing anti-LGBTQ+ groups, Cathy refused to give a straight answer.
Instead of addressing whether Chick-fil-A’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights has actually shifted, Cathy repeatedly fell back on talking points about hospitality. “We’re focused on serving everybody that comes in to eat with us,” Cathy said. When pressed again, he added: “For anybody that hasn’t tried us, we’d love for you to come try and have our great-tasting food and the hospitality that we’re known for.”
Melvin pointed out that Cathy seemed eager to skip over that chapter of the brand's history. Cathy took over as CEO in 2021 from his father, Dan Cathy, who previously sparked nationwide outrage and boycotts by publicly opposing marriage equality. While Chick-fil-A pledged in 2019 to shift its charitable giving toward homelessness, hunger, and education, the current leadership still won't address those past financial ties directly.
The interview also touched on Chick-fil-A’s long-standing policy of staying closed on Sundays. Cathy defended the practice, stating it gives team members time to rest, spend time with loved ones, and attend church if they choose.
Does a dodge like this change how you feel about the brand, or is it business as usual? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.

Kacey Musgraves isn't letting anyone mess with her guest list. After Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico attended Musgraves' Dallas show over the weekend, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem decided to weigh in on X.
"I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day," Noem posted, throwing her support behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton instead of Talarico.
Musgraves delivered a swift, direct hit in response: "I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it."
The clapback nods to Noem’s 2024 memoir, where she admitted to fatally shooting her family dog, Cricket, after describing the animal as "untrainable." Talarico later joined the conversation by sharing a backstage photo alongside Musgraves, captioning the post with a simple warning: "Don’t mess with Texas."
Noem's online comments come shortly after her March removal from the Department of Homeland Security following a tense Senate hearing, after which President Donald Trump named her special envoy for the Shield of the Americas. Meanwhile, Talarico continues his high-stakes Senate campaign against Paxton ahead of November.

Tom Welling is handling an accidental social media slip-up with some graceful humor.
While in New York City celebrating the 25th anniversary of 'Smallville' at New York Comic Con, the 49-year-old actor snapped a quick photo of the skyline from his hotel room. He added 'Hello NYCC' to the Instagram Story and posted it, unaware that his window reflection captured him totally unclothed.
The photo stayed up for several hours before Welling pulled it down, but screenshots were already everywhere on social media. Instead of ignoring the situation, he jumped into the comments of a viral Instagram Reel spoofing a tourist catching sight of him in the window, dropping a quick four-word reply: 'Came for the sights.'
His 'Smallville' co-star Michael Rosenbaum joined the fun by posting a mock photo of himself posing pantless near a window with a sign covering his lower half, writing, 'Just looking after my boy @tomwelling.' Welling re-shared Rosenbaum's joke on his own story set to 'Empire State of Mind,' showing he's able to laugh off the incident and have some fun with it along the way.

'Drag Race' Season 15 fan favorite Marcia Marcia Marcia is officially off the market! Actor Marty Lauter married their partner of nine years, Kyle Samuel, on Oct. 4, 2026. The two said 'I do' during an outdoor celebration held at Lauter’s childhood home on Long Island.
The couple met in 2017 while performing in a production of 'Newsies' at the Fulton Theatre in Pennsylvania. Seven years later, Lauter popped the question right outside the hospital where Samuel works as a registered nurse.
Despite a constant drizzle on the big day, 95 guests, including fellow 'Drag Race' icons Luxx Noir London and Jan Sport. gathered to celebrate. Attendees were asked to lean into a vintage, 1950s-to-70s dress code, matching Lauter’s love for 'granny-chic' fashion.
Lauter and Samuel each pulled off three distinct black-and-ivory wardrobe changes throughout the evening, choosing suits designed by Tanner Fletcher for the actual ceremony. Their gold wedding bands from Tiffany & Co. featured a subtle pinch to form a bow shape, while their engagement rings were custom pieces: Lauter’s featured a pearl, and Samuel’s showed off a cluster of small diamonds.
The grooms walked down the aisle with both sets of parents to a classic orchestral recording of 'It Only Takes a Moment' from Hello, Dolly! - a show they both toured in together. Their dog, Poppy, trotted down the aisle as the official ring bearer, while close friends Noah Hartwell and Cayel Tregeagle officiated.
Instead of a traditional timeline, the pair served a pizza buffet catered by Gino’s Pizzeria before the ceremony even started.
'We wanted our guests to be full, and a little tipsy for the ceremony so everyone would cry (hehe),' the couple shared. 'That way directly after the ceremony we could all hit the ground running on partying.'
Later, they skipped planned performances so their entertainer friends could relax, sharing their own first dance to 'Leather and Lace' by Fleetwood Mac.
