Me explaining law firms to normies: so it’s like a polyamorous marriage between a hundred or more lawyers and sometimes the hypergamous partners are seduced away from the polycule, especially if they’re concerned with moneymaxxing. if enough chads leave your partnership is NGMI

Crosby submitted an LOI to purchase some of Weil’s assets, including internal data, its trademark and its brand.
Crosby also hopes to hire some of Weil’s 1,200 lawyers.

Great writeup of the Weil saga. Highly recommend.

Legal recruiters are so funny. I’ll say “I want a job with better work-life balance. I do not care about name brand or prestige, and I will even take non-market salary for the right fit,” and they’ll be like “how about Sullivan and Cromwell? They do really sophisticated work”
I know this post is probably satire but it reminds me of that one chapter from Freakonomics called "Why Do Drug Dealers Still Live With Their Moms?"
this one goes out to all my non-share partners barely making a mil
who had families in NYC w the idea that they'd be able to save money, buy summer homes and have power over their careers
but who instead commute hrs to work and spend wknds dancing to the tune of the typo-laden emails thumbed by the share partners making an order of magnitude more
this was not the deal. lawyers were supposed to be able to become kinda rich
but the partners who came before you decided that they'd become mega rich and you'd stay vulnerable
nobody weeps for you bc you look great on that web page but damn you got fucked
May be related to why we've seen increased demand for Biglaw-caliber attorneys for training/validation. Can't rely on the vendor to provide that support, and you def don't want to assign your highly lucrative revenue-generating associates to do this work.
One of the first times I've seen a taxonomy of legal work presented as it relates to future automation. Not surprised it came from @ArtificialLawya Very similar to my own views

I'm intrigued by the review ratio concept in this article. Could see it fall dramatically in the next few years esp if insurance-backed. But accountability is still the biggest bottleneck. Human review isn't just for checking for mistakes in the work, it also provides "one throat to choke" when something goes wrong.
When you just made equity partner but now people won’t know how rich you are
NEW: Kirkland & Ellis will stop sharing its financial figures with the legal industry’s flagship ranking of law firm profits and revenues, concluding it is no longer “appropriate or necessary” to disclose results.

Perfect explanation for why I struggled as a lawyer but felt at ease in sales
How the low IQ sales guy wins:
- List building: pick enough (100?) accounts and start. Skip the perfect ICP
- Volume: the 50th dial gets made without thinking
- Copy: write it like a text msg
- Discovery: ask the question you actually want answered. Stop talking
- Demos: show the one thing they care about
- Negotiation: say the number. Stop talking
- Closing: when they say yes, say "OK."
Dummy up
This got me curious so I went and found the press release which I highly recommend checking out if you have a few minutes. Never seen one quite like it lol
