Here’s a story for you. We started filming without owning the title and had to do alternates.
Taft Broadcasting owned the title Ghostbusters as part of their half-hour sitcom starring Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker (F-Troop) and a gorilla chasing ghosts. I had never heard of it. They didn’t have proton packs or Bill Murray. Columbia paid $500,000 to buy the name, but they really should have paid Dean Martin, from whom I first heard the term.
In the film Scared Stiff (1953), he and Jerry Lewis (check out his acrobatic stair descent) are in an old haunted castle, and Lizabeth Scott asks Dean: “Who are you guys?” And Dean answers: “You’ve heard of Trustbusters and Gangbusters, we’re Ghostbusters!”
For my research writing the first movie, I watched every single ‘ghost’ comedy ever made. Bowery Boys, Hope and Crosby, Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis all did such films.
Happy Halloween 2026.

Fall Fundraiser 2026 keeps rolling! We're looking ahead to two sold-out live broadcast events! Mallory Chipman has some Alberta shows. Leela and Jay Gilday have a new musical project. And Terrell Edwards is at the Winspear.
“There is a musical calmness in Julian’s sound for this new venture, with his UK touring band, Michele Stodart on bass, Raevennan Husbandes on guitar, and Sian Monaghan on drums being joined by Jimmy Bowskill’s expert fiddle and pedal steel flourishes, the fiddle.” - w21Music

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work.
My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Ten years ago, Gord released Secret Path, inspired by the story of Chanie Wenjack. Best known as the frontman of The Tragically Hip, Gord was a celebrated Canadian artist who used his voice to draw attention to the history of residential schools and call on all people to take action toward reconciliation. Through Secret Path, he helped bring Chanie’s story into public conversation and created a lasting invitation to Do Something.
Gord joined the spirit world on October 17, 2017, and Chanie on October 22, 1966. Together, these dates mark the beginning and end of Secret Path Week and give us an opportunity to remember both Gord and Chanie while continuing the work that Secret Path helped inspire.

I have a dream. How crazy does that seem. Reflections of a King whose words let freedom ring.
Who lived up to his creed and fought against power and greed.
