Metaverse in NYT (2007): “John Maeda isn't real, nor is the island. He is the Resident, and the island is the Metaverse in the virtual world of the Second Life online game. Other works exhibited are a beige Apple II computer, and a dozen or so iPod Nanos.” nytimes.com/2007/05/04/style…

I wrote a new article about a liquid effect I implemented 5 years ago. (It's been a while)
Stable Fluids is used in this algorithm, and I explain how I applied it to create the liquid effect in this article.
There are also small interactive demos and you can play with them!

I will be speaking at #GitHubUniverse Main Stage tomorrow with @johnmaeda on ‘Sketching with code in the age of AI’.
@ProcessingOrg turns 25 this year. It feels like full circle to share the stage with John. I made this about our session on my hackable badge. See you there!
12 O'CLOCKS 30TH: I made 12 o’clocks back in the 1990s. Thirty years later, they’re running on a @github Universe badge that I enviously spied just a few days ago on my colleague @kdaigle's feed.
Where did these come from? CMU Professor @golan Levin documented the original clocks and captured animations when the original 68K OS9 platform went away. NYU Professor Daniel @shiffman and the Coding Train community recreated them in p5.js, giving the work another life in the browser.
Now I’ve adapted those recreations to MicroPython with GitHub Copilot, so all twelve clocks can run on the programmable GitHub Universe 2026 badge. Coincidentally, I’ll be at Universe presenting with USC Professor Qianqian Ye @4444ian, and I’m curious how something I made decades ago can be carried around the conference ... on my badge.
In summary, I made the original "12 o'clocks," and the open-source community kept them alive so they can keep on ticking. Thank you! <3 —JM

Introducing "Train of Thoughts". 🚆
TOT is my new Interactive Scene. A train that travels forever through a procedural isometric city built in real-time 3D, but with a twist. 👁️
Each carriage holds a different relationship with time: "Past", "Present", or "Future" (plus the Motorman's Cabin). Inside, every character has a small story, a thought they’re carrying on the journey.
Everything is generated via code and rendered in real-time within the browser. Zero images or external assets used.
At a moment when AI can solve so much of the technical work, creativity matters more than ever.
The challenge for me remains the same: make something unique. 🫡
Made with gpt-astra (mostly, Sol for a few things), three.js + Anatomy.

I made a skill called HTML Reel that turns a post, a video or a landing page into a reel.
It writes the script, builds every scene in HTML and cuts each move on a word. Once you record your take, it retimes everything to your voice.

ORIGINALITY AS THE GOAL: Follow your curiosity, make something meaningful for others, and let *their* responses shape what you make next.
- Start with your own questions.
- Make for others, not just yourself.
- Treat feedback as fuel for discovery.
- Don’t let AI’s instant answers end your curiosity.

We used to buy things made one at a time.
Mass production made products cheaper and more accessible, but largely identical.
What if the future takes us back to a world where everything is one-of-one?
Autumn Moon is a limited drop in collaboration with @kelin_online & @angelaloh09 built on that idea.
