Over the next 2 years, BAAJA—a new permitting bill—would create more legal runway for Trump to make corrupt deals & greenlight harmful projects of all kinds
What's worse, it would constrain any future president from repairing the damage

1/ 🚨 NEW ANALYSIS: Existing fossil fuel extraction projects threaten nearly SEVEN TIMES the world's remaining 1.5°C carbon budget.

🧵 Let’s dive into the findings…
6/ Delayed action + continued FF investment (most egregiously by wealthy countries & Big Oil companies raking in record profits) has kept pollution high and sentenced the world to exceeding 1.5C in the near term. But governments still have the power to change course.

During it's budget the UK Government announced an extra £20.4 billion for public finance institutions, including the National Wealth Fund (NWF), the UK’s National Development Bank (NDB) This is progress but even with today’s announcement, the NWF’s budget is still not enough
🧵
To deliver the funds needed for a just transition, we need more. Compared to its international peers like Germany’s KfW, the NWF is far behind. The Energy Wealth Fund is welcome but it shouldn’t be used to drive new FF investment.
📣Tomorrow's UK budget is PM Andy Burnham's chance to show he's serious about climate action & a just transition. Instead of heat pump funding cuts to increase defence spending, his gov. should end the carbon capture fairytale and back proven solutions!

5/ "This budget should be an opportunity to put public money where it can make a real difference to the climate and help cut people’s energy bills, rather than continuing to gamble billions on the fossil fuel industry’s latest expansion plan.”-Aled Dilwyn Fisher, OCI researcher
6/ Packham says failure to rein in the planned CCS spending “would be yet another strong signal that this government is putting big oil above people and the planet.”

🔎 Most CETP members ended fossil fuel finance, but Italy, Germany, & Switzerland breach their commitment, providing USD 6bn, 2.5bn, & 1.6bn in 2023–2025.
They must close loopholes & deliver on commitments.

The Senate's proposed permitting bill would strip communities of protections, accelerate gas expansion to power AI data centers, and undermine climate action.
It's a gift to the fossil fuel industry.
