Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, puts new tools in place to keep Canada’s trade corridors moving.     Here’s what it changes in the Canada Labour Code:    🔹 Earlier bargaining. Where the last round ended in an imposed settlement or a work stoppage, parties must begin bargaining 180–200 days before the agreement expires, up from the usual four months. More runway means more chances to settle before a disruption.    🔹 A Special Mediator. Appointed by the Minister, this mediator works with both parties and reports publicly, so Canadians can see what’s in dispute before anything stops moving.    🔹 Authority to end a dispute. Once a stoppage is underway, the Minister can order operations resumed, extend the existing agreement, or impose binding settlement.    This is substantially what Canada’s grain sector asked for. We support collective bargaining, and these measures add a predictable backstop. Our two proposed amendments focus on making it work in practice.    See our recommendations: hubs.ly/Q04C_t5z0    #CdnAg #CdnPulse #BillC39 #SupplyChain

Bill C-39 is now before committee, and it includes labour measures Canada’s grain sector asked for.    Our two proposed amendments would make those measures work in practice, so labour disruptions are addressed before they stop Canada’s rail and port system.    How Canada prevents and resolves labour disruptions will shape its ability to compete in global markets. Reliable trade corridors keep Canada a dependable supplier.    See our recommendations and send a letter to the committee at  hubs.ly/Q04C_whw0    #CdnAg #CdnPulse #BillC39 #SupplyChain

Rail and port work stoppages threaten the reliability of Canada's pulse exports, with economic losses beginning even before operations stop as customers turn to other suppliers. New federal legislation, Bill C-39, takes steps to address these risks, incorporating several priorities Pulse Canada has advanced on behalf of the sector. However, gaps remain that could limit its effectiveness in preventing disruptions and protecting exporters.  Read the full article 👉 hubs.la/Q04CNv2z0 #CdnAg #CdnPulse #BillC39 #SupplyChain

Peas can replace up to 24% of a laying hen's diet with no drop in performance and some additional benefits. 🥚   In a 12-week trial, researchers replaced part of the corn and soybean meal in hen diets with Canadian yellow peas.   Hens on pea diets laid just as many eggs, ate just as much, and gained weight normally, even at the highest pea level.   Results at a glance: ✅ Significantly heavier egg yolks ✅ Fewer signs of inflammation and stress in blood tests ✅ Benefits that grew stronger as hens aged, when laying performance usually declines   "Peas represent a value-add ingredient for poultry production, providing much more than simply nutrition," said Denis Trémorin, Director of Feed at Pulse Canada.   That gives poultry nutritionists in Canada and in export markets a stronger case for Canadian peas.   Read the full story 👉 hubs.la/Q04CsBD20   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #Poultry #LayerHens #AnimalHealth #YellowPeas

Yellow peas may help keep laying hens healthier from the inside out. 🐔   In a 12-week trial, hens were fed diets with up to 24% Canadian yellow peas in place of corn and soybean meal.   Blood tests told an interesting story: ✅ Hens on the highest-pea diet showed fewer signs of inflammation and stress ✅ There were no signs of immune suppression ✅ Benefits grew stronger as hens aged, when laying performance typically starts to decline   All of this came with no drop in egg production, feed intake, or body weight. The high-pea hens also laid eggs with heavier yolks.   "Peas represent a value-add ingredient for poultry production, providing much more than simply nutrition," said Denis Tremorin, Director of Feed at Pulse Canada.   Read the full story 👉 hubs.la/Q04BrQs90   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #Poultry #LayerHens #AnimalHealth #YellowPeas

What happens when starch enriched pea flour replaces all the wheat flour in shrimp feed? 🦐   In an 8-week trial, shrimp were fed a diet with all the wheat flour replaced by Canadian starch enriched pea flour:   Here’s what happened to the shrimp:   ✅ Grew and survived as well as shrimp on the standard wheat flour diet ✅ Developed about 39% taller intestinal villi, the gut folds that absorb nutrients ✅ Enhanced shrimp immune response compared use of wheat flour   Full replacement didn't just match wheat flour. It delivered added gut and immune benefits, giving shrimp farmers a reliable alternative as wheat flour prices and supply grow more volatile.   Read the full story 👉 hubs.la/Q04BrNJZ0   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #Aquaculture #ShrimpFeed #AnimalNutrition #PeaIngredients

90% dry matter digestibility: Canadian starch enriched pea flour is proving itself in shrimp feed. 🦐   New research measured how well Pacific white shrimp digest pea starch concentrate.   The results: ✅ About 90% dry matter digestibility ✅ About 95% digestibility for protein and carbohydrate ✅ Well above the roughly 51% dry matter digestibility previously reported for wheat flour in the same species   The researchers suggest this high digestibility helps explain why starch enriched pea flour could fully replace wheat flour without any loss in shrimp growth. With wheat flour prices and supply increasingly volatile, that's a strong case for Canadian peas in aquaculture feed.   Read the full story 👉 hubs.la/Q04BrNc_0   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #Aquaculture #ShrimpFeed #AnimalNutrition #PeaIngredients

Canadian peas are making waves in shrimp farming. 🦐   A new trial tested Canadian starch-enriched pea flour as a full replacement for wheat flour in shrimp feed.   Compared with the standard diet, the pea-based diet showed: ✅ The same growth and survival ✅ Feed pellets that held together just as well ✅ Stronger immune activity, with no signs of stress ✅ Taller, more slender intestinal villi, pointing to healthier guts and more capacity to absorb nutrients   As wheat flour becomes costlier and harder to source, aquaculture buyers are looking for alternatives. These results point to a new export opportunity for Canadian pea processors.   Read the full story 👉 hubs.la/Q04BrMrn0   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #Aquaculture #ShrimpFeed #AnimalNutrition #PeaIngredients

The more markets we develop, the more resilient Canada’s pulse sector becomes. 🌱   In a year of trade disruption, Pulse Canada grew demand for Canadian pulses on three fronts:   🍽️ Food: Canadian lentils went on the menu at Sprouts Farmers Market, in grain bowls across more than 400 U.S. locations. Outreach to food manufacturers also generated 230 new food industry contacts.   🐔 Feed: Two research trials in Southeast Asia showed peas perform well in layer hen and shrimp diets. We also opened conversations in two new feed markets, Mexico and Colombia.   🐶 Pet food: A life cycle assessment found pea ingredients can cut the environmental footprint of dry dog food by up to 47%. A 26-week University of Guelph trial also backed faba bean ingredients as a safe replacement in dog diets.   See how we're building demand 👉 hubs.la/Q04yChbr0   #PulseCanada #CanadianPulses #MarketDevelopment #Pulses #AnimalFeed #PetFood #Agriculture

At just under 42 million tonnes, Mexico has the 5th largest feed market in the world. Mexico is highly reliant on imported grains and ingredients for its livestock feed and pet food sector, which makes it a key growth market for Canadian peas: an affordable, sustainably grown ingredient with functional benefits for feed and pet food. CLANA (XI Congreso Latinoamericano de Nutrición Animal) was an important place to make the case for Canadian peas. The congress is one of the region's leading animal nutrition events, drawing about 600 nutritionists, industry representatives and academics from across Mexico, Central America and South America. These are the people who decide which ingredients go into feed and pet food. Read more here 👉 hubs.la/Q04yCrvS0 #PulseCanada #Mexico #PeaProtein #CanadianPeas #PetFood #Feed #Growth
