City of Ekurhuleni electricity outage interrupts pumping at Mapleton
The City of Ekurhuleni has informed Rand Water that Mapleton Substation has been energised to 50% capacity. Repairs are underway following damage to a breaker caused by a lightning strike last night.

Mapleton Pumping Station receives electricity from the City of Ekurhuleni. An outage affecting the city’s electricity infrastructure cut power at approximately 20h35 on 2 November 2026,
halting pumping at Mapleton. #RandWater
AFFECTED AREAS: Water shortages are expected in the cities of Ekurhuleni and Tshwane, and the local municipalities of Lesedi, Govan Mbeki, Victor Khanye and Thembisile Hani. #WaterSupplyAlert
RESTORATION: Rand Water has asked the City of Ekurhuleni to treat the outage as an emergency. As of 09h00 on 3 November 2026, the city had not provided an estimated electricity restoration time. Pumping at Mapleton remains interrupted. #RandWater
Progress has been delayed by severe weather conditions, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning persisting into the early hours of this morning. Repair work is continuing, and further updates will be provided as progress is made.
