Every technological revolution starts with a breakthrough in materials. Today, we're excited to announce Sovereign AI's investment in @cusp_ai as part of its $450M Series B. @cusp_ai is building frontier AI models to dramatically accelerate materials discovery, compressing decades of scientific experimentation into years. If successful, it has the potential to transform how innovation happens across industries, unlocking breakthroughs that simply aren't possible today. This is the level of ambition we're backing: founded in Cambridge, built in the UK, with the potential for global impact. We're proud to partner with @ac_edwards_1, @wellingmax and the entire CuspAI team as they build the future of materials discovery. Read more below.

On social media, we have put British values in action by putting British families at the heart of our decisions.
Over the past few months @KanishkaNarayan travelled across the UK, listening to parents, teachers and young people about life online. Their voices helped shape our action: a ban on social media platforms offering services to under-16s, and stronger protections for 16 and 17-year-olds online. We’re doing all we can to give our children their childhood back.

Social media firms will need to create safer default settings for older teenagers. A smooth slope, not a cliff edge, so 16 and 17 year olds are supported when they join social media.

Through #RageAgainstTheScreen we've heard repeatedly from parents fighting a losing battle against products created to hold children's attention. We welcome the govt's willingness to take further action to tackle addictive social media design and the harm it causes young people.
Late-night scrolling. Endless autoplay. Algorithms designed to keep you hooked. We're changing that for 16 and 17-year-olds. New protections will mean overnight social media curfews and addictive features will be switched off by default, helping young people get better sleep, focus on what matters and enjoy healthier online habits.

I've heard from parents, teachers and young people concerned about the impact social media can have on sleep, studying and family life. That's why we're introducing protections for 16 and 17-year-olds, helping reduce late-night scrolling and limiting addictive features by default
Childhood shouldn't be shaped by algorithms designed to keep young people scrolling. Our new protections for 16 and 17-year-olds will help create healthier online habits, because growing up online should mean more balance, more freedom and more time for the things that matter. 🎥 @leicesterliz explains the changes

'I don't think we should do the disservice to teenagers of suggesting that they are looking for simply turning these things off' Online Saftey minister Kanishka Narayan spoke to #BBCBreakfast about plans for a social media curfew for 16 and 17 year olds between midnight and 6am - though they will be able to opt out of it by changing their account settings. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c982…

These measures will be crucial in helping young people get the sleep they need, focus on school and college and spend more time with friends & family. We want young people to enjoy the benefits of tech while having the tools to make the online world a place where they can thrive.

The evidence is clear. When children spend less time on social media, they sleep better, concentrate more, and enjoy stronger family relationships.
Give teens less time on social media and they get: 😴 Better sleep 🧠 Improved focus 😊 Less stress That's what a government-backed pilot with 300 families showed.
