Following the release of Savaiye Mukhbakya I & II, revealed by Guru Arjan Sahib, and Savaiye Mahale Pahile Ke, composed in praise of Guru Nanak Sahib, we are pleased to announce the annotation of Savaiye Mahale Duje Ke, composed in praise of Guru Angad Sahib.
These ten savaiyas were composed by Bhatt Kalya Ji, one of eleven poet-bards whose compositions are included in the Guru Granth Sahib. Recorded on pages 1391-1392, they celebrate the virtues and attributes of Guru Angad Sahib, who, through the company of Guru Nanak Sahib, enjoyed both the comforts of sovereignty (raj) and the bliss of union (yog) with IkOankar (the Divine).

In the seventh pauri (stanza) of Ramkali Ki Var, Satta Dum Ji and Rai Balvand Ji glorify the fourth Guru, Guru Ramdas Sahib, beginning by saying, blessed, blessed is Guru Ramdas Sahib. The One who has created him has also mentored, adorned, refined, and chiseled him. The greatness of the Guru comes from the one who created and beautified him.

In this couplet, Guru Amardas Sahib, using the letter ਸ (sassā, #4), calls us to reflect on our money-making methods. The word sanjamu means 'restraint,' yet in our pursuit of profit, we often abandon it.
From the Pandits of the past who charged for weddings to today’s corporate world that justifies exploitation, we are asked:
Can we defend earnings gained through harm?
If we truly identify with IkOankar (One Creative and Pervasive Force, 1Force, the One), would we still profit at the expense of others?
Is our bank balance worth the debt we add to our spiritual accounts?

In Vanjara, the seeker has been affectionately addressed as a merchant friend (vaṇjāriā mitrā). They have been made aware that they have come to this world to trade in the Nam. They are, therefore, instructed to engage in this true trade so that their face may be radiant in the court of IkOankar, and their cycle of birth and death may be ended.

In this couplet, Guru Amardas Sahib exposes the pretension within us: claiming to know without experience is imposture. Just as only one who has walked on the moon can truly describe it, only through lived experience can we speak of the Divine Command of IkOankar (One Creative and Pervasive Force, 1Force, the One).
Preaching without practice, he warns, becomes a poisonous noose that suffocates the Light-force within and misleads others. In a world of endless data and easy sharing, are we spreading truth or abstraction? Are we tying nooses or cutting them?

The word ‘tantra’ refers to magical or occult practices, often involving rituals performed with items such as vermilion, turmeric, lentils, rice, etc. However, in the Guru Granth Sahib, such practices are rendered unnecessary, and the Nam (Identification) of IkOankar (the Divine) is revealed as the true ‘tantra.’

In this couplet, Guru Amardas Sahib, using the letter ਜ (jajjā, #13), delivers a wake-up call: anyone who lets their consciousness be robbed is a fool. Our consciousness is the light of IkOankar (One Creative and Pervasive Force, 1Force, the One), guiding us through this world. But when we fixate on degrees, accolades, and titles while neglecting Sabad, we suffocate the spark of this light.
Caught in ignorance, we drift through cycles of birth and death, consumed by vices, missing the richness of true purpose. This light is our torch in the darkness—without it, what debts can we settle and what burdens can we release?

In the first pauri (stanza) of Ramkali Ki Var, there is a narration of Guru Nanak Sahib transferring the Guruship to Bhai Lahina Ji (later Guru Angad Sahib) during his lifetime.
Also stated in the pauri is that the being whose name is made renowned by IkOankar (the Divine), their utterances are precious. The divine virtues are deeply connected with the eternal Nam (Divine Identification). The being who acquires these virtues attains the highest spiritual state of freedom.
