Binance lost $6.3bn in 20 minutes.
North Korean hackers broke into the world’s largest crypto exchange last Thursday. The entry point was reportedly one engineer’s compromised laptop.
It’s the biggest crypto heist ever. The real lesson isn’t about crypto.
Indian shares and mutual funds work differently.
They’re recorded in your name with a depository (CDSL/NSDL) or the fund’s registrar, separate from your broker’s own assets.
Check your CAS from CDSL or NSDL to see what’s recorded in your name.
Rule of thumb: before investing anywhere, ask: if this platform shut down tomorrow, where is my asset recorded, and in whose name?

GIFT City funds: 42.7% short-term capital gains tax. 14.95% long-term.
Unlike Indian mutual funds, GIFT City funds face fund-level taxation when they churn their portfolios.

Small caps can deliver outsized returns. But can investors survive the volatility long enough to earn them?
In this Article, Senior Correspondent Anil Poste speaks with Aashish Somaiyaa, CEO of WhiteOak, about the firm’s first-ever NFO: a small-cap fund of funds that invests in a basket of existing small-cap funds rather than picking individual stocks.
They discuss how WhiteOak selects funds, why small-cap winners rotate so sharply, and how a diversified basket could help reduce performance swings and investor churn.
Also covered: expense ratios, taxation, rebalancing and who this strategy may suit.
Is the goal to find the best-performing fund, or to build a more consistent investing experience?

SK Hynix just posted a seven-fold jump in quarterly operating profit: 83.3 trillion won (~$62.5bn), 7%+ above estimates.
It’s also returning another ~$45bn to shareholders.
But one line in the story matters more than the headline.

Any payout comes from one of three places:
- Profits from the core business
- Selling an asset
- Borrowed money
Only the first one recurs.
Rule of thumb: when a company announces a big payout, open its cash flow statement and compare cash from operations with the payout.
If asset sales or new debt fill the gap, it’s a windfall, not a habit.
