If US President Donald Trump gets fed up with the deadlock in Israel, he could invite the party leaders to the White House and push them toward a power-sharing agreement. The president has given no indication that he will do so, and such a move would be unprecedented, though he is no stranger to using unorthodox means to get his way.

The incoming Members of Knesset from the Arab Joint List announced that they will recommend Gadi Eisenkot to President Herzog as their candidate for prime minister. "We made the decision unanimously, following consultations among the components of the list. It was not a simple decision. Despite our determination to topple Netanyahu, the opposition camp led by Eisenkot has yet to show the necessary willingness to confront Netanyahu's path, to fight the incitement against Arab citizens, and to challenge the attempts to undermine the legitimacy of their political choice." "Although Eisenkot already has more recommendations than Netanyahu, we see importance in widening the gap between them. This is a step that strengthens the chances of replacing the government and reduces the possibility of various attempts to form a national unity government that would keep Netanyahu in power, an option Netanyahu is working toward with the support of influential Israeli, regional and international actors."

שטח C שצמוד ל-A.

Alongside the budgetary implications, the abrupt end of US military aid to Israel could also signal a shift in relations between the countries. President Donald Trump on Tuesday tried to qualify the announcement by stressing that Israel has been a good ally, saying the aid cut-off was supported by Jerusalem. President Isaac Herzog sent a warning letter last month to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top officials, warning of a “highly explosive and dangerous reality” in the West Bank, and lamenting the ongoing “moral disgrace” of settler violence. “A severe flare-up on the ground is liable to carry severe and far-reaching consequences, both for Israel’s security and its functioning as a sovereign state, and for Israel’s international standing, Diaspora Jewry, the Israeli economy, and more,” warned Herzog, adding that there is a “moral disgrace and the stain on us” when innocent Palestinians are harmed. Herzog wrote the letter after a September 30 visit to the Judea and Samaria Division headquarters. Read more on The Times of Israel.
