Have been lucky to collaborate with @aliquotchris since early 2022, and have him as a mentor to @incubator companies from the 1st cohort. Very excited to finally be under the same roof with him and the Leap team as part of the @solanalabs family — the best is yet to come.

Earlier this year, Solana Labs acquired my company Dialect. Today we’re launching our team’s next phase. Meet Leap, the trading app for high performance. Built on the belief that crypto is the future, Solana is the network, & trading discipline, not volume, is the goal.

For those who missed our livestream, we consider the flight a success! Our landing was a bit rough, but it was something we anticipated. We'll share every detail, including what caused the crash, once we've thoroughly examined the wreckage. Our 7 kg SOLUAV aircraft reached a speed of 130 km/h and flew stably in the air. We'll also begin the process of rebuilding SOLUAV.✈️

Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.

As a gentleman and a scholar of the cold war, here are my 2 kopeyeks > 4) Change our relationship to Israel This is unfortunately cooked. Since ww2 Russian/soviet strategy has been to control energy exports to Western Europe. Almost immediate post ww2 they backed Assads, Ba’ath party, Sadat, you name it. USA/west and arguably even China just want reliable markets for energy. That’s all. When the media says it’s all about the “oil”, this is the part they leave out. USA doesn’t want to control the oil fields and they don’t care who is their shareholder. They don’t even care if prices are high because if it’s an open fair market high prices will drive investment and more energy will flow. Putin doesn’t want this because open fair market runs around any geopolitical leverage. He wants to control the oil fields so he can influence Europe. There is zero ideological overlap between Putin and irgc, yet they are allies, and for this reason. There isn’t going to be some deep China/russia alliance for this reason, because last thing China wants is 5k nuke armed russia with any leverage over its high employment manufacturing industry. So wtf is Israel involved in any of this? It’s really hard to build an army that’s effective at blowing up Russian tanks and SAMs. USSR sent a ton of arms into Syria and Egypt in the 50s and Kennedy had basically terrible options to counter Soviet arms build up. The alternatives were so bad that a Boston Irish catholic in the 50s armed Israel. Why aren’t there any good alternatives? A competent general and officer core is a challenge to any regime. ME armies are built around supporting internal security and providing stability for the regime, and not executing multi pronged complex missions. Good general + good officers + shitty civil government = coup Israel is not likely to undergo a military coup, so the civil administration has no fear of a competent defense force. So their army is good at blowing up Russian tanks and SAMs. Turkey is probably the closest alternative. Nothing has changed since the Cold War. Putin wants leverage over Europe and China if he can get it, irgc want leverage over SA and gcc and Israel is the main USA armed neighborhood police. What are the options? 1) usa disconnects from ME and EU. We have a ton of oil in americas so high prices or not the spice will flow and we don’t care about Putins leverage, let them all deal with it on their own. 2) SA/gcc/turkey/jordan all heavily invest into high functioning armies. Turkey is the closest and imho, a war between turkey and irgc would be at least as bad as the Ukraine war today. As much as everyone in ME dislikes Israel my guess is that there isn’t a ton of love for the former ottomans. 3) China takes over somehow. This is totally far fetched and would scare the crap out of even the most nativist dem or gop. 4) France/europe? It’s so cooked I think 3 is more likely. You can’t afford 50%+ gdp welfare state and a navy
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

I just had a brief phone call with President Trump and I asked him if he can work with newly empowered Democrats on Capitol Hill. He said, in part: “I can work with them on many things, many more things than people understand…. When I ran against Bernie Sanders, basically when he dropped out, almost all of his people joined me instead of Hillary. … We’re identical on trade.”

The 🧠🪱 school of economics is for redirecting investment from the most productive companies and burning the capital in the least productive sectors of the economy, and somehow not understanding that this will be a huge net negative on the world.
After spending $400 million to defeat the California billionaire tax—the largest sum ever spent by one side in a ballot initiative or midterm election—Silicon Valley billionaires have won this battle. But they will lose this war. It’s only a matter of time, and the Democratic wave may well accelerate this shift. 🧵
