Every Israeli has woken up knowing the existential question this projected hung Knesset, with Arab parties as kingmakers, is asking of them: what kind of democracy is Israel? But one thing is clear. This election was a referendum on Netanyahu himself, and he seems to have lost that poll. It looks like the Bibi bloc has collapsed from a 68-seat majority in the last Knesset, to a minority this morning. Early numbers suggest most Israeli voters have rejected him and his allies. We will have to wait until Thursday for final results, and these may well prove slightly different.

The OBR has forecast net migration to fall to 120,000 this year.

How long can this discordant Downing Street double act go on for? Surely the new dialectic between Burnham’s dad-socialist idealism and its conservative, Healeyite antithesis is bound to be resolved in an electoral and real budgetary synthesis before 2029?
The Prime Minister cannot spend three years bobbing along with grammable titbits of cost-of-living policy while promising a post-election new dawn. Something will have to give, and despite the repeated denials, all other signs point towards an early poll.
Burnham has restored Labour’s lead and has high personal ratings. Those will be slowly squandered as the inevitable compromises of power begin to bite, and as global stagflationary forces accelerate. Healey’s programmed cuts to Whitehall spending for the supposed year of the next election are testament to this. It would be suicidal for the Government that is promising post-neoliberal national renewal to begin a round of austerity heading into the year of a general election.

Prime Minister Carney is attempting to pull off a monumental act of historical reverse engineering — one that would see the New World returning to the shores of the Old. Finding itself in President Trump’s crosshairs, Canada is trying to pivot from being America’s dependent northern brother to Europe’s long-lost child returning home. “It is my strong personal view that the international order will be rebuilt, but it will be rebuilt out of Europe,” Carney has predicted.

The Cass Review, of 2024, was supposed to be a turning point. Young people experiencing gender distress should not simply be waved through to the operating table, said Cass. Instead, they should receive comprehensive, evidence-based mental-health support.
But what if that support comes from a profession that has given itself to trans ideology? In this thorough and damning investigation, @bindelj uncovers the rot at the heart of British clinical psychology: an affirmation approach that amounts to, as one whistleblower put it, a “trans conveyer belt”.
