Could the existing Commonwealth ever evolve into the federation it long ago gave up trying to become? This has become so implausible that Canada has opted to cosy up to the EU instead. As for us, if we want closer union with polities that hate everything about Britain except the money we send, we might as well do the same.
So perhaps before Our Andeh says something we all regret, on our affiliation with either of these august societies, we should start the campaign to decolonise the Commonwealth by removing Britain from its ranks. If it really is a club of equals, it’ll be fine without us. As for Charles, we can club together and get him a package holiday for next year.

You might call them “fauxmosexuals”: straight men who act gay to get girls.
Before Russell Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, his trial featured a telling moment. After hearing that one of the complainants testified that she had presumed Brand to be gay when they met at a Labour Party conference and thus felt “safe” asking him back to her hotel room, the prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC whipped out the accused’s unfortunately-titled 2007 memoir 'My Booky Wook' and confronted the leering Lothario with a photograph of himself at the age of seven, with the caption: “This is the exact moment when I decided to act gay to attract girls. It took 15 years to produce results.”

It is interesting that, where Anglo-Jewry does produce genius, it tends not to be avant garde. Geoffrey Elton was an old-fashioned historian, and Tom Stoppard quite an old-fashioned playwright.
Both men had a soft spot for Thatcher, whose own affection for British Jews is well known: many Jews numbered among her constituents in Finchley and her colleagues in cabinet. Elstree’s seat is Conservative and always has been.

A more mundane, less tortuous interpretation of what is really going on here beckons, though the judge avoids naming it. In a covert sort of way, isn’t PPT just threatening to kill himself, if publication were to go ahead?
Turning to the world of children’s literature for a completely random example, isn’t this just a much more hyperbolic version of the Violet Elizabeth Bott gambit: “I’ll thcream and thcream ’till I’m thick”?
I suppose you could interpret Violet as simply describing a dispassionate hunch about what is likely to happen to her body, should she fail to get her way with William, but it seems more apt to say she is making a threat.

In a culture where remaining single and childless carries a heavy stigma, the romantic prospects for the less fortunate among China’s 25 million surplus men are, to put it mildly, bleak. Frustration is boiling over in the nascent Chinese manosphere.
Echoing a widespread view, one popular post on WeChat ties the rise in bride price to feminism: “I was born in the 1980s. When I got married, there was no bride price […] Now feminism has even brainwashed some women born in the 1970s into thinking they’re ‘goddesses.’ Policies to boost childbirth are useless. Why not crack down on feminism instead?”

Professor John Gray, one of the world’s leading political philosophers, returns to UnHerd, where he will write exclusively. In his first essay back, written in the wake of the GOP’s midterm rout, he surveys the wreckage that Donald Trump will leave behind. The President may have been a world-historical figure, argues Gray, but rather than “making America great again”, his follies have hastened the end of the American age. The post-Trump world is post-American.
