The ANC called for implementing the Auditor-General’s findings through audit tracking, community engagement and stronger internal capacity.
The DA emphasised protecting indigent households through solar power and free basic services. Dr Dickson Masemola mentioned that “Coalitions are not a political inconvenience; they are the will of the people. Those who treat them as temporary deals for power, rather than public agreements in the interest of citizens, are betraying the trust placed in them.”
He also said that "Many municipalities lack a viable revenue base, and unemployment has made payment for services impossible for too many households. A serious fiscal review is now underway."
