BREAKING: The second-highest ranked diplomat at the French embassy in Iran has been assaulted by the IRGC. Rémy Bouallègue was attacked in front of the French embassy on October 8th despite his diplomatic status. Le Point writes that the French Foreign Ministry decided to hide information about the attack from the public. On July 19th, two diplomats from the French embassy belonging to the Cooperation and Cultural Action Service (SCAC) were arrested and detained for several hours by the security services of the Islamic Republic. One of them was beaten up while in custody. On September 20th, Iranian security forces stormed the French Language Centre in Tehran. Days later, the Iranian judiciary closed that cultural space, which for twenty years has offered French courses and hosted the DELF (Diploma in French Language Studies) and TCF (Test of Knowledge of French) examinations, arguing that “illegal activities” had taken place there. The authorities in Paris believe that France is being primarily targeted because it is one of the last Western countries in Iran still maintaining contact with Iranian civil society, which the Islamic Republic would like to cut off from the outside world in the context of the war waged by the United States and Israel. Having always made a point of keeping its embassy in Tehran open, despite the two successive conflicts that struck Iran in June 2025 and February 2026, France is now, in the eyes of the regime, paying the price for being one of the last major Western countries still present in Iran. The recent attacks come against the backdrop of Macron deciding this summer not to publish a detailed summary note from the General Secretariat for Defence and National Security on interference operations by the Islamic Republic of Iran in France. La Lettre writes that the decision not to make the report public was contrary to the official doctrine of denouncing all actors attacking France. Meanwhile, the Iranian regime has been condemning France for being too heavy-handed against the protest movement currently sweeping France. Tehran even summoned French diplomats in Iran to protest how the French riot police act on the streets. Many in France believe that the Islamic Regime in Iran is doing whatever it can to fan the flames in France and is actively involved in supporting the protest movement and radicalizing it as much as possible. Coupled with the string of recent attacks against French diplomats in Iran, experts say that a pattern has become noticeable, with the Islamic regime stepping up its hybrid war against Iran.

19-year-old Harley Purdue was a kind and gentle young man living in Chatham, Kent, England. His family remembered him as a smart and loving young man whose life was only beginning. Harley was preparing to become a father. His girlfriend, Hazel Gadsden, was pregnant, and the young couple had a future to look forward to together. But in the early hours of December 2, 2025, that future was tragically taken away. At approximately 2:40 a.m., Harley was asleep beside his pregnant girlfriend when his housemate, 18-year-old Eritrean migrant Musa Salih, knocked on their bedroom door. Salih claimed there was a dead mouse in the basement toilet and asked Harley to help him. Still half-asleep, Harley got out of bed wearing only his boxer shorts and wrapped in a blanket, unaware that he was walking into a trap. Salih intended to lock Harley inside the basement toilet so he could steal money from his bedroom. When Harley resisted being locked inside, a struggle broke out, and Salih stabbed him eight times, including a devastating wound that penetrated his lung and heart. Hearing the commotion, Harley's pregnant girlfriend rushed downstairs and found him gravely wounded and bleeding heavily. She desperately tried to protect him, grabbing a kitchen knife as Salih threatened them. Emergency services were called, but Harley's injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene before 4 a.m. On October 15, 2026, Salih, now 19, was found guilty of Harley's murder at Maidstone Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced on November 4. Harley was just 19 years old. He never got the chance to hold his baby, watch his child grow up, or experience the family life that awaited him. His girlfriend lost the man she loved, his family lost a cherished son, and his unborn child was deprived of a father. Rest in peace, Harley. 🕊️

Renewed fighting between Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces has cut off 800,000 people from vital UN food assistance, while some frontline hospitals have admitted more than 700 war-wounded patients in a single week. The escalation, which began in September, has devastated areas including Taiz, Marib and Yemen's Red Sea coast, with more than 200,000 people displaced in recent weeks. In Taiz, where more than 600,000 residents depend on humanitarian assistance, including over 200,000 children, wheat flour supplies are nearly exhausted. Blocked roads and ongoing clashes have prevented deliveries of essential food and medical supplies. Hospitals are also running dangerously low on surgical equipment, anesthesia, oxygen and medicines. One hospital in Taiz reported having just 14 days of dialysis supplies remaining. "This is the kind of situation that can rapidly spiral into a humanitarian catastrophe if assistance cannot move safely and reach those who need it most," warned WFP country director El-Khidir Daloum.

Hamas is demanding approximately 10,000 Israeli shekels ($3,220) from private merchants for every truck carrying commercial goods into Gaza. Hamas also requires merchants to conduct approximately 30% of their sales in cash to gain greater control over commercial revenues. Israeli authorities also revealed that Hamas security personnel arrested and imprisoned a merchant's son after his father refused to pay the demanded fees.

The United Arab Emirates is moving forward with plans to establish a massive, permanent 15-story embassy in the Israeli coastal city of Herzliya, six years after normalizing diplomatic relations with Israel under the US-brokered Abraham Accords. The building will cover up to 15,000 square meters across 15 floors, combining diplomatic offices with private residences for the Emirati ambassador and embassy personnel. The UAE became the first Gulf country to open an embassy in Israel in July 2021, following the historic Abraham Accords signed in September 2020. The latest approval marks another step toward a permanent Emirati diplomatic presence in Israel.

Germany has sent thousands of letters to Syrian refugees informing them that their protection status is being revoked, as the government accelerates efforts to return Syrians to their homeland following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. During the first six months of 2026, Germany reviewed 8,320 Syrian protection cases, revoking or withdrawing status in 23.2% of them, compared with just 3.7% in 2025. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is also preparing broader measures that could affect hundreds of thousands of Syrians currently holding subsidiary protection.

The Czech Republic has officially criminalized the promotion of communist movements that suppress human rights, placing them on the same legal footing as Nazi movements. The amendment, signed by President Petr Pavel, explicitly targets anyone who establishes, supports or promotes Nazi, communist or other movements seeking to suppress fundamental freedoms or incite racial, ethnic, religious, national or class hatred. Offenders face prison sentences ranging from one to five years, with additional provisions addressing the distribution of extremist propaganda and symbols. The legislation follows decades of debate over the country's communist past. Czechoslovakia endured more than four decades of communist one-party rule, beginning in 1948 and ending with the peaceful Velvet Revolution in 1989. Supporters, including historians from the Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, argued that communist totalitarianism should be treated as seriously as Nazism under criminal law.

🇩🇪 Germany’s Left may fail to form coalition over fears of Islamist radicals in own party A major political scandal erupted in Berlin after staff of Elif Eralp, the Left party’s candidate for governing mayor, accidentally sent journalists a document in which she admitted fearing for her family’s safety because of people in her own party with links to Palestinian radical organizations. The day before the letter, the party invited well-known pro-Palestinian activist Ibrahim Ibrahim to a party event. He has been linked to support for the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). One of the party's MPs, Ferat Kocak, was pictured with Ibrahim Ibrahim. CDU representatives have now demanded that the Left’s potential coalition partners, the SPD and the Greens, reconsider plans to form a joint government, saying they are no longer sure how the Left will form a government if they themselves fear an “Islamist environment in their own party.” The head of Berlin’s Neukölln district said the situation shows how deeply supporters of antisemitic and terrorist organizations can be connected to the Left party.
