🚨 TURKEY IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FULL BLOWN MARKET CRISIS RIGHT NOW. Turkey's stock market crashed more than 8% this week after a local fund manager admitted it couldn't meet customer withdrawal requests. That single admission triggered a broader panic across the entire fund industry. Regulators then froze and ordered the liquidation of 131 investment funds worth ₺890 billion, roughly $18.3 billion, affecting around 350,000 investors. Several large asset managers are accused of running what officials are calling a "Ponzi like scheme," buying illiquid shares in related companies to artificially inflate their fund values and pull in more retail money chasing what looked like miracle returns. Investors reportedly pulled as much as $1 billion out in a single day, which is what forced the freeze in the first place, authorities were trying to stop a stampede of redemptions from crashing prices even further. The response has been extraordinary. Turkey's central bank slashed margin requirements from 35% down to 20% to stop falling prices from triggering automatic margin calls. The country's sovereign wealth fund started directly buying blue chip stocks just to hold up the benchmark index. Two of Turkey's biggest banks, İşbank and state owned Ziraat Bank, were ordered to handle the actual liquidation of these frozen funds, a process that could take up to three months, or longer if regulators extend it. This is not a normal correction. This is regulators actively intervening at every level, freezing money, buying stocks, changing margin rules, and providing emergency liquidity, just to keep the market from spiraling further. And the underlying problem, whether the assets inside these frozen funds are actually worth what they were valued at, still hasn't been resolved. The stabilization is happening on the surface while the real question underneath remains completely open. And this is all happening at the same time the lira keeps hitting fresh all time lows and Turkey's 10-year bond yield sits above 32%, meaning stocks, the currency, and the bond market are all under pressure together.
