In honor of our 20th anniversary, we wanted to share some of the most iconic WordPress.com websites we’ve come across.
Check out the thread below, and comment with a WordPress.com site YOU think is worth giving a shoutout! 🧵
See the little banner at the top of free WordPress.com sites? It invites visitors to start a site of their own.
In September, we redesigned it. Fewer people clicked it, but the ones who did were more likely to follow through, and we saw 18 percent more new sites. 📊
The changes were simple: blue instead of white, and “Create your own website” instead of “Design a site like this.”
If we’d only looked at clicks, we would have called the test a loss and kept the old banner.
The new banner is now live on every free site, and it’s the version our next tests have to beat. Our data team breaks it down: data.blog/2026/10/30/fewer-c…
Some surprises are fun.
Finding out something's wrong with your website when Black Friday traffic arrives is not one of them. đź‘»
Luckily, it's still October.
You've got time to click around, test your checkout, check your inventory, pull up your site on your phone, and fix anything that feels a little … haunted.
And if your hosting is one of the things keeping you up at night, WordPress.com has performance, security, and managed hosting covered behind the scenes.
Save the jump scares for Halloween.

Glad to be part of this one. Install the WordPress plugin in Antigravity and your agent can build sites, write and publish posts, and manage your WordPress.com sites without leaving the editor. antigravity.google/blog/plug…
We’ve all been there. You keep pushing a few small tasks that need to be done on your website to next week. 🧹
Not anymore! Connect your site to @ChatGPT or @claudeai through the WordPress.com MCP, and your agent can take the busywork off your plate while you stay in charge of your @WordPress site.
The site looks good.
The offer is on point.
The checkout works.
You're ready for the hard launch. Now let's make sure people can actually find your site.
Before the holiday noise really kicks in, take a look at how your pages and products show up in search. Give your titles and descriptions a little attention. Check your links. And make sure the content you're creating around your Black Friday offers actually helps people get where you want them to go.
Want a little help getting discovered? WordPress.com gives you access to SEO plugins that can help you optimize your content, metadata, and more.
You've done the work. Let people see it.

Keep your website updated right from your AI chat box. Connect the WordPress.com MCP to @ChatGPT, @claudeai, or @Cursor and manage your @WordPress site from there. Learn more in the thread!
You’re the boss. Your AI Chat will launch a draft and ask for permission to make changes. Nothing happens without your approval. MCP is included on Personal plans and up, and new free sites get it for their first 30 days.

Your website deserves a Black Friday GRWM, too.
Shop your own store like a customer would, then do it again on your phone. Anything clunky? Better to find it now than in the middle of holiday traffic.
Whether it’s your first online store or one gearing up for its busiest season, WordPress.com has the ecommerce tools to get it ready: wordpress.com/ecommerce/?utm…
Do you know how much you’d have to pay if your site gets hacked?
It can be $$$, but not on WordPress.com. For us, your site’s security is our number one priority. Bring us an infected site, and we’ll scan it and clean it at no extra cost.
Learn what’s included in our plans at the link below: wordpress.com/blog/2026/10/2…
The best way to learn how to build for the web? Build something real.
Through WordPress.com Education, two master’s students in UX design at UDIT built a website for Odón Solar, a Spanish clean energy nonprofit that didn’t have the resources to build one on its own.
We teamed up with @WordPress Credits, UDIT’s Master’s in UX program, and Economistas sin Fronteras to match the students with the nonprofit.
125 hours later, the students had a real client project in their portfolios and OdĂłn Solar had a site it could actually use.
