Coverage by @jwgale of our important new @AnnalsofIM paper on LC recovery trajectories. Keeping this evidence of lack of recovery in so many front/center as I head to RECOVER-TLC/related meetings (fresh out of the hospital myself). People with long Covid affecting multiple body systems are far less likely to recover, with fewer than 1 in 5 showing sustained improvement within three years, a US study found bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Proposed federal grant rule changes from the Office of Management and Budget could significantly reshape how federal research grants are awarded. The revisions would allow political appointees to approve grants based on their alignment with the administration’s priorities rather than on scientific merit. An analysis published in Annals of Internal Medicine of 3,653 public organizational comments on this proposed rule change found that nearly 88% of organizations opposed the revisions. @ACPIMPhysicians was among the organizations expressing concern, stating that the proposed revision opens the door to politicizing public health and scientific decision making. Read the full analysis for free here: bit.ly/3UcD4Ty

A target trial emulation of 2,252 adults with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis found no meaningful improvement in pain, function, or repeat surgery rates when #SpinalFusion was added to decompression surgery. The study also found that adding fusion increased surgery duration, length of hospital stay, and perioperative complications. These findings add to growing evidence that decompression alone may be sufficient for many patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. bit.ly/4A2TcG8
