A $750,000 upgrade to @ArkansasState meat lab means more protein for hungry children in the state. The college and Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry and its supporters celebrated with a tour of the facility Wednesday in Jonesboro. “These upgrades were to implement a high-speed snack stick line and train our students on updated, state-of-the-art equipment you would find in a commercial operation,” says A-State meat lab director Corey Readnour. “Now we’re ready to launch large-scale production.” Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry provides protein snack sticks made mostly of venison to more than 200 schools in 73 of the state’s 75 counties. A-State’s lab updates, including a grinder, mixer, cutter, roll stock vacuum packaging and refrigeration, will streamline the jerky-like stick production. Until now, most have been processed in Missouri. “We’re thankful,” says Ronnie Ritter, president of Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry. “A-State believes it can produce up to 200,000 meat sticks per year for us to give kids around the state.” Arkansas leads the nation in food insecurity with one in five children going to bed hungry. Meat stick program sponsors include Arkansas Farm Bureau, Arkansas Community Foundation and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

ICYMI: Farm bankruptcies are rising, and Arkansas continues to lead the nation in Chapter 12 filings. Federal court data shows 292 Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies nationwide through the first three quarters of 2026, up nearly 19% from the same period in 2025. Arkansas recorded 32 filings, including 12 in the third quarter alone. What do these numbers reveal about the financial pressures facing U.S. agriculture? Harvest relief for America’s farmers. Today, @POTUS and @SecRollins announced the Harvest Fuel Relief Program — making $8 BILLION available for one-time payments to farmers facing higher costs and market disruptions. Here’s what that means: ➡️ Payments to help cover a portion of estimated losses for the 2026 crop year. ➡️ Payment amounts based on planted acres, production costs, crop yields, and prices. ➡️ Row crop payment rates announced in November, with details for other eligible commodities to follow. ➡️ Application will be available online using a Login.gov account that is connected to USDA. 🔗 usda.gov/about-usda/news/pre…
