Matthew McLean considers the strange predicaments of the creatures in Marcon’s films: suspended in routines they cannot escape, their helplessness by turns harrowing, comic, and graceful.

Alexander Calder’s sculpture "Mountains and Clouds," 1976, has returned to Capitol Hill. After a 2011 earthquake raised safety concerns, a structural analysis of the hanging elements was prompted and they were deinstalled in 2014.

The National Gallery of Art has named Virginia Anderson the Christiane Ellis Valone Senior Curator of American Art and head of the art of the Americas. Anderson is currently the senior curator of American art and department head of American painting and sculpture and decorative arts at the BMA.

Three generations of the Düsseldorf-based Bronner family have been recognized with the 2026 Art Cologne Prize, which recognizes the commitment to collecting, promoting, and making art accessible to the public. The winner receives €10,000 ($11,300).

Frieze and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism revealed the list of programs for the first edition of Frieze Abu Dhabi. The fair is set to take place from 19 to 22 November this year at Manarat Al Saadiyat, a cultural space in Saadiyat Island, an emerging hub for the arts in Abu Dhabi.

The organizers of Art Basel Miami Beach (ABMB) have announced that the 2026 iteration, which runs December 4–6, will include 272 exhibitors from more than forty countries and territories. This number represents a reduction from 2025, which hosted 285 galleries.

The Sámi artist network Dáiddadállu has been announced as the recipient of this year’s Munch Award celebrating artistic freedom. The award is presented annually by the Munch Museum in Oslo, and comes with a monetary prize of NOK 300,000 ($31,200).

JMW Turner’s 1835 canvas "Rome, from Mount Aventine" will be auctioned at Sotheby’s Old Master Evening Sale in London on December 9, with an estimate of £50 million ($66.2 million). Ahead of the auction, it is on public view at Rome’s Palazzo Rondinini from September 29 to October 1.

Pace Gallery is seeking a tenant with which to share its NYC headquarters. The news was first reported by Puck’s Wall Power newsletter and by Julie Brener Davich in her Substack, The Appraisal. According to Davich, the gallery is offering space on the upper floors of its 8-story building.

The National Gallery Singapore (NGS) and Singapore Art Museum (SAM) have named Chng Hak-Peng as the new CEO of NGS, effective January 1, 2027. Chng previously led the Singapore Symphony Group, where he served as deputy chair, then as CEO, from 2014 to 2022.
