I’ve spent the years as a Clerkship Director writing SLOEs (the letters that make or break EM residency apps). So trust me when I say: the “little things” matter more than you think. Here’s what every med student should do on their EM rotation to stand out 🧵

NTG/nipride cause ICP elevation hydralazine & enalapril are unpredictable esmolol is not very powerful in reality: #1) clevidipine is probably optimal if your shop has it #2) nicardipine is also excellent #3) labetalol is OK but may fail & half-life too long for titration

Another fantastic grand rounds! Thank you @peterjohns84 for taking the time to lecture on the diagnosis & stratification of “dizziness” & vertigo in the ED. We have become more confident in our HINTS assessment, BPPV treatment, & use of brain CTs because of it

no such thing as a “max” dose of pressors no such thing as a “minimum” platelet threshold needed before placing a central line (if one is emergently needed) it’s fascinating how medicine creates so many bogus concepts emcrit.org/pulmcrit/high-dos…
