September is a special month for our poles; the #Arctic reaches its minimum sea ice extent for the year, and the #Antarctic reaches its maximum. Assessing the change in sea ice extent in our poles is a key indicator of global #OceanHealth, revealing to us changes in sea levels, sea surface temperatures and even carbon sequestration. September offers researchers, civil society and policy-makers a perfect moment to explore the health of our poles. Through MyOcean Health we can visualise the #SeaIce extent in both the Arctic and Antarctic, through an interactive graph comparing long-term averages and a moving globe showing the data visually. #WEkEO’s Light Viewer offers the ability to view and assess the potential sea surface temperature of the global #Ocean, in the present day, the past (back to 2022) and forecasted 10 days into the future. A powerful tool for researchers and policy-makers, this dataset from @CMEMS_EU enables us to view the changing state of Earth’s global heat sink, and extrapolate the impacts its warming may be having on our blue planet. Here’s how to view the data for yourself: 1️⃣Visit the 𝗪𝗘𝗸𝗘𝗢 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿: data.wekeo.copernicus.eu/dat… 2️⃣On the side bar, open the “𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲” dropdown, and select “𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲” 3️⃣Use the slider at the bottom of your screen to select a date and explore the temperature of the ocean

Each of @CopernicusEU’s Services focuses on a different aspect of environmental monitoring, from the ocean or land through to emergency management or climate change. By combining their observations and data, we can build a stronger understanding of the dynamics of our planet. For example, combining data from across services can help us follow the journey of the water cycle, and the changes it has seen as a result of climate change. #CopernicusMarine tracks the beginning of the journey in the #Ocean, before Atmosphere takes over post-evaporation. @CopernicusECMWF tracks changing precipitation patterns, while @CopernicusEMS monitors resulting floods. Land tracks absorption and redistribution of water as it journeys back to the ocean. Explore The Odyssey of Water and the power of cross-service collaboration: eu-space.europa.eu/earth-obs… @EEA
