🧠 Welcome to the November issue of Brain & Spine Editors' Choice! In this issue, we are pleased to highlight: 🔹 Individual-level quality-of-life changes are common after aneurysm screening in women: A prospective cohort study 🔹 What Pfirrmann misses: A routine T2-weighted signal index reveals substantial within-grade heterogeneity in early lumbar disc degeneration We are also delighted to recognise Karl Schaller and Everard Munting, the founding fathers of Brain & Spine, whose vision, dedication and leadership brought the journal to life and established the scientific foundations on which it continues to grow today. Both were recently awarded Honorary Editorship of Brain & Spine in recognition of their contribution. Karl Schaller received his Honorary Editorship at the EANS Annual Meeting in Hamburg, while Everard Munting was honoured at the EUROSPINE Annual Meeting in Gothenburg. It is with deep sadness that the EANS announces the passing of Prof. Francesco Tomasello. Prof. Tomasello was a worldwide acknowledged neurosurgical master and leader, whose recognition went far beyond the borders of Italy and Europe. While working in Italy throughout his entire career, he was a true ambassador for international Neurosurgery and deeply committed to the development of our discipline worldwide. He served on the Board of the Italian Society of Neurosurgery for over 20 years, as Treasurer, Secretary and President from 2002 to 2004. Prof. Tomasello was an active member of the EANS family for almost 50 years. In 1979 he was nominated a member of the Research Committee of EANS, where he served until 1987. From 1987 to 1995, he was a member of the Training Committee of the EANS. In 1995 he was elected Vice-President of the EANS, and served as a member of the Examination Committee of the Neurosurgical European Board Exam. From 2013 to 2017 he was the WFNS second Vice-President representing the EANS. In 2017, at the XVII EANS Congress in Venice the EANS bestowed on Prof. Tomasello the EANS Award for Exceptional Service to European Neurosurgery in recognition of hisoutstanding dedication and long-standing commitment to the neurosurgical community. This was the neurosurgeon, the teacher, the master. But for those who had the opportunity to knowing him more closely, Prof. Tomasello had a strong personality, reflecting his enthusiasm, passion and commitment for Neurosurgery. He was not self-indulgent but rather demanding towards himself, first, as well as towards his fellows and pupils. With Professor Tomasello, the global neurosurgical community loses a skilled and passionate neurosurgeon, a mentor and a teacher to many, a personable, generous, and straightforward colleague, a unique and tireless advocate for neurosurgery. He will be missed. Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and friends who had the privilege of knowing him.   Francesco Sala President of the EANS Read the full obituary at eans.org
