A great investment in the future of technology & agriculture.
Today @PolkState’s JD Alexander Center in Lake Wales, we had the honor of hosting @GovRonDeSantis, who announced the award of $276,069 in Workforce Capitalization Grant funding from @EducationFL.
This funding will support innovative partnerships that will expand dual enrollment opportunities for high school students to gain hands-on experience in agricultural technology, including the use of drones and other emerging technologies. We also unveiled new wayfinding signage to the JD Alexander Center thanks to @MyFDOT.
A huge thank you to Governor DeSantis, as well as Florida’s Commissioner of Education @HenmackIII and former Florida Senator @jd_alexander8, for supporting Polk State’s quality workforce training and the accessibility our College provides for our community.

Commissioner @HenmackIII: “On Monday, I was with Secretary @Sonderling47 announcing $40 MILLION that the federal government is investing in Registered Apprenticeships.”
“That application was submitted under the leadership of @GovRonDeSantis, and that $40 million is going to go to drive workforce talent in critical reindustrialization agenda efforts.”
FLORIDA IS BUILDING THE WORKFORCE OF TOMORROW.
Today, Commissioner @HenmackIII joined Labor Secretary @Sonderling47 and @RepBrianMast for @USDOL’s announcement of $40 MILLION for Florida to strengthen America’s shipbuilding, maritime, and manufacturing workforce.
The funding will expand existing Registered Apprenticeship programs and encourage more employers to launch new ones.
This ensures we’re meeting future workforce demands and providing in-demand career opportunities for Floridians. 🇺🇸
Commissioner @HenmackIII on Registered Apprenticeships: “We have recent data…that shows $70,000 on average earning potential for an apprentice coming out of a Registered Apprenticeship program.”
“There is a GUARANTEED wage progression built into the program—so by the end of the program, you’re earning MUCH more than when you began.”

Thank you to @Lowes & @lowesfoundation for stepping up in a big way. We know of the massive skilled trades shortage—roughly 155,000 annual openings just for electricians (~72,700), plumbers (~42,000), and HVAC techs (~40,600) through 2035.
