Eli Lake cuts straight to the heart of the matter regarding what is at stake for moderate Democrats, leaving us with a chilling vision in the final paragraph. Having such clarity laid out before us is refreshing—don't miss it.

"The outsize reaction to Stevens’s maneuver is an expression of Democratic insecurity. Maybe El-Sayed will pull it out in the end. But no one pounds the table like this over one defection, even one as prominent as this. Democrats know that there are many more Haley Stevenses out there." nationalreview.com/2026/11/h…
Michigan voter says Haley Stevens' endorsement convinced her to vote for @MikeRogersforMI:
"It’s almost like her endorsing him is giving people permission to change their minds."

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a dumb person's idea of a good writer. His writing is so purple he ought to pen his pieces in Crayola violet crayon.
"Haley Stevens’s defection from the Democratic vote isn’t a story about party intrigue. It is a story about Stevens waking up and choosing violence. In supporting Mike Rogers, she has allied herself with an odious culture war in the US, tied to the very real war in Gaza,” writes Ta-Nehisi Coates. vanityfair.visitlink.me/4IcJ…

Take it from me, a person who regularly invests in staples such as cereal and caviar at the local provisions emporium with my fellow regular people who must purchase comestibles by their own hands.

Of all the rationalizations that have accompanied Stevens’s about-face, the notion that all this dissension within Democratic ranks might actually be good for the movement with which El-Sayed is aligned is the most preposterous. nationalreview.com/2026/11/h…

If the patriotic wing of the Democratic Party does not aggressively confront the anti-American bigots of the DSA and radical left, this cancer will metastasize and put our party and nation at grave risk.

Some of you motherf*ckers are more LOYAL to a POLITICAL PARTY than to your own FAMILY, COMMON SENSE or GUT INSTINCTS.
You SEE the bullsht. You KNOW it’s bullsht. But because it’s YOUR SIDE, you defend it?
That’s not LOYALTY. That’s GANG MENTALITY.
For WHAT? These parties don’t KNOW YOU, don’t LOVE YOU and haven’t done SH*T for you.
THINK FOR YOUR F*CKING SELF when voting today
THAT’S HIP HOP.THAT’S PUNK ROCK.
STOP WORSHIPPING PEOPLE WHO WOULDN’T CROSS THE STREET FOR YOU.

Democrats have a bad habit of letting non-Democrats lecture them about being Democrats.
Peter is right about this. Jews argue for the sake of heaven. The word though is not “some.” It’s two words: “self respecting.” Self respecting American Jews would never vote for Abdul, Mamdani or anyone affiliated with the DSA. Pick me AsAJews however are a different story.
There's one small, unglamorous, word that would immensely improve public discourse about Israel, American Jews and antisemitism.
It's the word "some."
Every time I hear a pro-Israel Jewish pundit declaring that "Abdul El-Sayed makes Jews feel unsafe" or "Jews feel uncomfortable in today's Democratic Party," I think: What's with the royal we?
We Jews are famously disputatious. And that division now extends to basic questions about the nature of Israeli state.
39% of American Jews think Israel committed genocide (Washington Post, Sept 2025)
A plurality of American Jews under 35 favor a single democratic state from the river to the sea. (Jewish Voter Resource Center, May 2026)
So yes, some American Jews fear Abdul El-Sayed and the Democratic Party's pro-Palestinian direction. But others love it.
Is the divide 50-50? No. It's probably somewhere between 75-25 and 60-40. (As a rough proxy, Mamdani won about a third of the Jewish vote). But it sure as heck doesn't entitle anyone to project their own views onto American Jews as a whole.
So, next time, include the word "some."
Because no one elected you Pope.

Great @EliLake piece!
“Sooner or later, Acker, Nessel, Schumer, Carville, and the other Democratic moderates will have to take their own side. All of them have expressed deep concerns about the hard-left faction seeking to usurp their party. Carville has even said that he would leave the Democratic Party if Piker became a major force within it.
And yet they all have chosen to purge Stevens instead of thinking through what happens when the man they have endorsed wins his election and becomes a kingmaker.
Perhaps then the Democrats making a show of their solidarity with El-Sayed will learn they have invited a wolf into their henhouse.
And maybe then all of Stevens’s former friends will recognize that she was not trying to sabotage her party so much as she was trying to save it.”

The moderate Democrats purging @HaleyforMI should understand that the populist left faction represented by El-Sayed wants to purge them. My latest. thefp.com/p/the-purging-of-h…
