BACK-TO-BACK STATE CHAMPIONS!! THE NORTH GREEN BRIGADE ARE YOUR 2026 ISSMA OPEN CLASS B STATE CHAMPIONS! The Green Brigade brought "Coralcopia" to Lucas Oil Stadium today and left as the best Class B band in Indiana. That's two straight state titles for North, and three in the last four years. Today was the Green Brigade's 10th consecutive trip to State Finals, and look at what they've done with them: three championships, two runner-up finishes, and six straight years in the top five. At some point we have to stop calling it a hot streak and start calling it a dynasty. To the students and directors who put in the summer rehearsals and the fall Saturdays to get here, you made Evansville proud. Congratulations, Green Brigade. Go Huskies!

Our Shepard Leadership and Law Academy took 2nd place at the Evansville regional We the People competition and will advance to the state competition. Students presented to a panel of judges in simulated hearings, answering questions on constitutional law and the history behind it. Their command of the material showed in every round. Congratulations to the students and their teachers. We'll be cheering them on at state!

In this episode of What's Happening with Dr. Hoover, she looks back at a strong fall sports season across our high schools, including a standout debut season for girls flag football and sectional championships in tennis, volleyball, and soccer. Good luck tonight to our three teams playing in football sectional finals, and to our cross country runners competing at state this weekend.

Last night's school board meeting included two reminders of what makes EVSC special. Julie Hart retired from teaching at Dexter, but she never really left. She still substitutes in classrooms, runs volleyball concessions, leads the after-school gardening and 4-H programs, and organized this year's Trunk or Treat. As Dexter staff put it: when Julie's around, things get done. The board also recognized bus driver Cynthia Brugger, who noticed smoke on her bus Thursday morning and evacuated all six students immediately. Everyone got off safely, a direct result of her quick read on the situation and years of experience behind the wheel. Thank you, Julie and Cynthia!

Liberty Federal Credit Union has been a steady partner for EVSC, with their latest support now extending to the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center. Liberty FCU leadership visited SICTC recently to celebrate, including Senior Vice President of Marketing Brent Joyce, President and CEO Bill Schirmer, and board member Bob Suhrheinrich, who served as the principal from 2006 to 2011. Thank you, LFCU!

Thank you to the 8th graders and families who spent Thursday evening with us at the Options Fair. The students and teachers at each booth talked about what their programs look like day to day, and the conversations were a good reminder of how many ways there are to build a high school experience around what you love. If you couldn't make it, or you left with more questions, you can still learn more and apply now through December 1. evscschools.com/innovativepr…

It's been a busy couple of weeks for our North High School athletes! For the first time in school history, North volleyball is a sectional champion. The Huskies play in the regional Saturday at 3 p.m(CST). at Mitchell High School. Jackson Scott and Myles McCutchan beat Floyd Central 6-3, 6-4 and Austin 6-3, 6-3 to reach the Doubles State Finals this weekend. Girls soccer beat Castle in penalty kicks to win the sectional title. In cross country, Lincoln Willoughby finished 7th in 15:52, the 4th-fastest 5K in North history. Freshman Anderson Roman also qualified for the Regional meet. Congratulations, Huskies!

It takes a lot of miles to get to to this point in the season, and our boys and girls put them in. Proud of every EVSC runner who took the line!

Reitz Leadership Academy students held their first quarterly workshop today. This year's theme is activating leadership, not just talking about it. Students started by reflecting on what they care about and where their strengths are. Then they spoke with community organizations and built an action plan for getting connected to one. The Academy, now in its second year, will meet three more times. On February 17, students will spend a full day of service working with a community organization.
