♟ The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has appointed Grandmaster Emil Sutovsky (@EmilSutovsky) as CEO of FIDE Enterprises, a Swiss-based company wholly owned by FIDE. He will combine this role with his current position as Chief Executive Adviser to FIDE President Timur Turlov (@TurlovforChess). In his new role, Sutovsky will oversee FIDE’s commercial activities, with an emphasis on building long-term partnerships and developing new business opportunities. The appointment forms part of FIDE’s broader efforts to strengthen its institutional and commercial capabilities. FIDE Enterprises will support the Federation’s long-term development by helping to unlock the commercial potential of chess. Another priority will be to strengthen the connection between professional chess and its global audience, making the sport more engaging and accessible to a wider public.

Together with the previously announced representatives, the new members will contribute to strengthening the political and institutional role of the President’s team within FIDE. Elisaveta Bykova, the 3rd Women’s World Champion, was born on this day in 1913. 👑️️️️️️ She first claimed the world title in 1953, defeating Lyudmila Rudenko. After losing it to Olga Rubtsova in 1956, Bykova reclaimed the crown in 1958, becoming the first woman to regain the Women’s World Championship. ✨♟️ Her contribution to chess extended beyond competition. A passionate advocate for women’s chess, Bykova authored three books covering Vera Menchik, Soviet women chess players, and the Women’s World Championship. She also helped promote the game through lectures and the organisation of tournaments. #WomenInChess

The event has brought together 385 players from 65 national federations, including 44 Grandmasters (GMs) and 8 Women Grandmasters (WGMs). The championship is held in two age groups – 50+ and 65+ – across Open and Women’s sections. All four competitions are 9-round Swiss tournaments with classical time control.
