"Satanism is not a Constitutional faith." A former city council member in Ottumwa, Iowa opened a meeting with a prayer to Satan under the license of religious liberty. @freedomcenterlu's @RHelfenbein explains why that is not an excuse.

FRC President @tperkins on capital punishment and the proposed livestream execution of Nidal Hasan.
As a former police officer and as a pastor, I understand both the purpose and the biblical foundation of capital punishment. It is not merely punishment for a crime; it is also intended to deter others from committing similar acts. Scripture not only provides justification for capital punishment, but in cases of murder, explicitly calls for it. Genesis 9:6 declares, “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man.” Capital punishment, properly administered, is not a rejection of the sanctity of human life. It is an affirmation of it. But that does not mean executions should become public spectacles. I oppose the proposed livestreaming of the execution of convicted Fort Hood terrorist Nidal Hasan for two reasons. First, when we separate capital punishment from its moral foundation, we risk turning an act of justice into what appears to be an act of vengeance. Rather than affirming the sanctity of human life, a public spectacle of death can communicate the opposite message—that human life has little value. Second, as House Speaker Mike Johnson has warned, broadcasting Hasan’s execution could provide jihadist organizations with a powerful recruiting tool. Rather than deterring future terrorists, it could give them propaganda to inspire more violence. Nidal Hasan should receive the punishment imposed for his horrific crimes. Justice should be carried out, but it should not become entertainment. The purpose of capital punishment is to uphold the value of innocent human life, not to make a spectacle of taking the life of the guilty.

O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. — 2 Chronicles 20:12, ESV

President Trump’s deal to allow Russian diesel imports violates the spirit, if not the letter, of the Lindsey Graham sanctions bill recently signed into law. The U.S. would be fueling the Russian war machine. Most of this diesel would go to the global supply since the U.S. already produces more than it consumes. A more prudent approach would be for Congress to restrict diesel exports, or for the president to take executive action, which would likely bring the domestic price down since we export 1.5 million barrels a day. I agree with these bipartisan senators and urge the president to “reverse course.”
Today, @SenatorShaheen and six bipartisan senators issued a statement regarding the legality of Russian diesel fuel imports to the United States. 🔗 Full release: foreign.senate.gov/press/dem…

The Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals, but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the practices of Israel. — 2 Chronicles 17:3-4, ESV
