In the Colorado Way, we are leading with innovation and collaboration to tackle the challenges we face, especially when it comes to expanding housing that Coloradans can afford at every budget. This week, we unveiled the Housing Common App thanks to the leadership and vision of Maria De Cambra, Executive Director of the Department of Local Affairs. Maria brought together developers, housing advocates, and local leaders to find a better way to quickly get the homes we need built. Her leadership on this will save people money and help build more homes for Colroadans that we need now.

Colorado, you don’t need to ram voting into Election Day. Vote early! You can vote early in person or drop off your ballot at your nearest drop box. It is too late to put your ballot in the mail, so be sure to find an official drop box! You don't need to wait for Election Day, find your closest drop box or polling place: sos.state.co.us/pubs/electio…

I welcomed Colorado eighth-grader Weston Hancock to the Colorado State Capitol as Governor for a Day! Weston has a passion for history, and it was great to give him a firsthand look at how our state government works and the history that has shaped Colorado. I’m grateful to see young Coloradans curious about our past and excited to help shape our future.

Great to be back at our Forest Service state nursery and see the completed renovation. Coloradans depend on healthy forests for clean air, good-paying jobs, and the outdoor lifestyle we love. Our forests are worth protecting, and this nursery is growing the trees that will make them stronger for the next generation.

Good news for Southwest Colorado: Wolf Creek Pass on U.S. 160 has reopened in both directions following significant flooding. Crews continue working around the clock to repair damaged sections of highway. Drivers should expect delays and single-lane traffic in some areas. Thank you to our @ColoradoDOT crews working to restore safe travel. Read more: pagosasun.com/stories/us-160…

Colorado, let’s settle a Halloween candy debate! 🎃 @Jolly_Rancher got its start right here in Golden, Colorado, in 1949. But when it comes to your trick-or-treat bowl, are you picking Jolly Ranchers, Skittles, Starburst, or Sour Patch Kids? And a Halloween safety reminder: Keep cannabis gummies and suckers far away from Halloween candy. Not every gummy is for goblins!

Axis International Academy is a free public charter school that can now serve more students and helps every student become fluent in Spanish, French, or Mandarin. As someone who speaks more than one language, I know the doors that bilingual education can open. It’s wonderful to see how this new campus will help more students learn across languages and cultures. I am excited to be here today in Fort Collins and talk with some of the passionate educators who brought this new campus to life. Innovative schools like AXIS are giving Colorado students more opportunities, which is part of why Colorado ranks as the number one state for education.

Sir Patrick Stewart was a talented and INSPIRING STAGE AND SCREEN actor WHO brought intelligence, humanity, and a sense of wonder to generations of Star Trek fans. I was honored to welcome him to Colorado in 2023, TO declare October 7, 2023, Patrick Stewart Day, and even quoted him in my 2021 State of the State Address. He engaged and inspired millions, including me. My condolences to his family, friends, and fans everywhere. In Colorado, we love Captain Jean-Luc Picard; we believe in the power of the possible. And as Captain Picard said, “Things are only impossible until they are not.” Oh yes, his work as Professor Charles Xavier in X-Men, Sterling in the comedy Jeffrey, and his extraordinary Shakespearean performances, including Prospero in The Tempest, were also remarkable. :)

Colorado’s glaciers are part of what makes our mountain landscapes so remarkable, but new research shows just how dramatically they’ve changed this year. Record-low snowfall and extreme summer heat caused some of our remaining glaciers to lose significant ice. These changes affect high-alpine ecosystems and the wildlife that depend on them. It’s a powerful reminder of why understanding and protecting Colorado’s natural world matters. Read more from the @AP: apnews.com/article/glaciers-…

In Golden, we celebrated Colorado’s 150th and America’s 250th with two murals by Colorado artists Graham Carraway and Yazmin Atmore. Honoring the water that sustains our communities and Colorado jazz pioneer George Morrison Sr., these works celebrate the people and stories that make Colorado special. Thank you to everyone who brought them to life!

Colorado’s future is bright when young people are curious, engaged, and ready to make a difference. Yesterday, Weston Hancock, an eighth grader at Ridgeline Middle School in Windsor, served as Governor for a Day, got a firsthand look at state government, and spoke with @9NEWS about what it’s like to be Governor for a Day.

I’m heartbroken by the news that Kaden Matsuda and Jackson Donlon, two Colorado Mountain College students, have died after going missing in the mountains. My thoughts are with their families, friends, and everyone who knew them during this incredibly difficult time. I’m grateful to the search-and-rescue teams and volunteers who worked tirelessly in dangerous conditions throughout the search.

Public art is for everyone, and it helps tell our story and reminds us where we’ve been. In Fort Collins, we celebrated Colorado’s 150th anniversary and America’s 250th with art that honors our state’s history, communities, and people. From CSU’s beginnings to the contributions of trailblazers who helped open doors to education for everyone, these pieces remind us that Colorado’s story belongs to all of us. I hope they inspire the next generation to see themselves in our history and help shape our future. Thank you to the artists, @ColoradoStateU, and the community partners who brought these stories to life.

A special day at the Colorado State Capitol! Weston Hancock joined me for a press conference and announced an official proclamation as part of his day as governor. Weston’s proclamation, “One Good Deed Day,” encourages us to take time each day to help our fellow Coloradans. It was a great opportunity to honor Weston’s passion for our great state and give him a closer look at how state government works.

On National First Responders Day, I’m grateful to the firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement officers, 911 dispatchers, and emergency personnel who show up for Coloradans when they need help most. From responding to emergencies and natural disasters to helping keep our communities safe every day, you make a difference when it matters most.

Dolores Huerta dedicated her life to fighting for working people and advancing civil rights, and I was honored to meet her during her many visits to Colorado. As a co-founder of the United Farm Workers, she helped bring national attention to the struggles of farmworkers and inspired generations with the words “Sí, se puede.” Her legacy of courage, organizing, and standing up for others will live on—my condolences to her family and all those mourning her loss.
