This is a huge deal. The pressure has been building for years. Tennessee and Arkansas passed laws to break up CVS, while Sens. Warren and Hawley led the charge nationally. CVS fought back but ultimately folded. Hopefully the first of many health care monopolies to break up.

By the first half of 2028 the CVS drugstore business will be separated into a new company, separate from the Aetna insurance unit and Caremark prescription benefits division.
The CEO of CVS says that that the Break Up Big Medicine legislation from Elizabeth Warren and Josh Hawley, as well as new state laws, are two reasons he is breaking up the company.
