During yesterday's hearing, we spoke about a heartbreaking incident in which a teenager experiencing a cardiac episode waited for help for almost 40 minutes, and help never arrived. Thankfully, his parents were able to get him to a hospital (where he remains in the ICU) but this should never have happened. Our EMS workforce is severely undermanned, and as a result there simply aren't enough ambulances on the roads to help those in need. This is why I urge this administration to stop following in the footsteps of its predecessors and direct OLR to sit down with the EMS unions and hammer out a fair contract with them. Poor pay is causing EMS personnel to leave the job in droves. We need this to end, and EMS members need to be paid what they deserve.
