Well said Edmund. The post by @tomhfh was hurtful, ill-informed and wrong. Sensible critics of Ofsted simply want better regulation, better accountability and thereby better educational outcomes for children. Ofsted's kafkaesque approach is not improving student outcomes.

Thank you, Ruth. Exactly this. Accountability should help schools identify what must improve and support them to do so. A grading system that frightens leaders, drives staff away and damages a school’s reputation can destabilise the very education it claims to protect.

So well put, Edmund. No Head wants to hide from accountability but the system has evolved to create fear & dread with no evidence that grading helps schools to improve on behalf of the pupils they serve. In fact the reputational damage of an adverse grade has the opposite effect.

Absolutely love this. 👏 Of course we need boundaries and consistency but as you say, compliance isn’t the destination. Trust, relationships, belonging and genuine ownership are what create lasting change. Children and staff need to feel valued, trusted and part of a community.
