George Orwell worried that a shrinking vocabulary would eventually produce a shrinking range of thought. It is difficult to think a nuanced thought with a blunt language.

LESS THAN 12 HOURS AFTER NEVADA PIERRE WAS REPORTEDLY TAKEN OFF THE PITCH, FOUR BIG NAMES STEPPED UP TO SUPPORT HIM! 😳❤️⚽ The story of 3-year-old Nevada Pierre is touching hearts around the world, and several big names are reportedly stepping up to support the young football talent and his family. 🔥 Lamine Yamal reportedly offered support to help protect Nevada’s football dream. 💰 Cardi B reportedly gave the family $50,000 to support them during this difficult moment. ❤️ Ousmane Dembélé also reportedly showed support, although the amount he may have contributed remains unknown. 🌍 Vozinha, the Cape Verdean goalkeeper, reportedly promised to cover the expenses of any football academy willing to accept Nevada and give him the opportunity to develop his talent. Imagine a 3-year-old whose football talent has attracted attention from major names around the world! 🥹👏 Sometimes, what is meant to discourage a child can become the beginning of something extraordinary. Nevada’s story is becoming bigger than football! ❤️🌟

This is so intelligent, I want to cry: The 140 seats won by the student opposition against Serbia's nationalist government party will be taken up not by students, but by academics, professors & public figures from pre-chosen pool of 250 experts, selected by student plenums.

Hasan Piker: “Trans people are 1% of the population. They shouldn’t be talked about endlessly. Muslims are 1% of the population. They shouldn’t be talked about endlessly. It’s not a Guatemalan migrant that made your housing more expensive. It’s your landlord, it’s hedge funds buying out all of these homes and rising up their prices. A transgender person is not the reason your energy costs are skyrocketing. It’s the wars we’re waging, the data centers sucking up the energy needs. This is just the truth”

Freddie and Navongela Jackson, a Black couple, were handcuffed for trespassing on property they own in Marion County, Florida. A deputy pulled onto their land, demanded ID, and detained Freddie even after he showed his license with the address. Ownership was confirmed minutes later and he was released. Handcuffing people for sitting on land they paid for is not a reasonable suspicion of a crime. It is an assumption that they do not belong there.

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read
