The day the EU, as we know it today, was born. 🇪🇺
On 1 November 1993, the Maastricht Treaty entered into force, officially establishing the European Union, formerly the European Communities.
Happy birthday to us! 💙

Great news!
Today @wto 10th Global Aid for Trade Review, Barbados & Australia helped to deliver something special: a multilaterally agreed declaration on Aid for Trade: Partnerships for Trade & Development. The first multilaterally agreed Dec on AfT in 20 years. It was tough but rewarding!

The label is less relevant than the content. EU &Canada has a strong relationship that can deepen further and focus on even more concrete cooperation. A good place to start is for all EU countries to ratify CETA, the free trade agreement in force provisionally for almost 10 yrs
Canada is not & will not become a candidate country to the European Union, nor does it want to be. But there are still strong prospects for deepening EU-Canada ties.

Dear Serbia, you have made your voice heard!
After nearly two years of protests for democracy, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, Serbians turned out in historic numbers.
Congratulations to the Student List on your victory!
These are the very values at the heart of our European Union.
A new chapter can begin for Serbia. The door to the EU is open, and we are ready to move forward together.

When my book came out, everyone asked if Trump was going to change the direction of US trade policy. "Too soon to say" I'd say because of status quo bias. Now Trump made "tariff" one of the most hated words in politics, says @greg_ip wsj.com/economy/trade/how-ta… via @WSJ (1/2)

NEW: @MalmstromEU & @inumanak write that there are strong prospects for deepening EU-Canada ties—but taking those ties to new heights will require addressing old objectives that remain unfulfilled.

Viewing the world economy as a system of chokepoints has its own deadly blind spot, Yeling Tan & coauthors write in @ForeignAffairs. It is leading policymakers to focus on capabilities rather than strategy—to fixate on what leverage they have, & what leverage others have over them, rather than considering what happens when many countries build up their chokepoint power all at once. foreignaffairs.com/united-st…
