Another DCFS failure under Pritzker.
More than $1.4 million in unauthorized extra pay went to 146 employees between 2020 and early 2026.
HR Director Kimberly Bates approved the payments and took nearly $52,000 herself, including while on leave. Roughly 30% of the total went to just 11 people in her own office.
Bates never obtained the required CMS approval and later resigned.
Last week, a judge held current Director Heidi Mueller in contempt for failing to turn over records tied to the death of Mackenzi Felmlee, a foster child in the agency’s care.
Mueller was given 30 days to comply. The next hearing is December 4.
How many more failures before we see any real accountability?

LAKE COUNTY ILLINOIS STUDENT ENROLLMENT is DOWN 11% 📉 yet there is a NEW SCHOOL SALES TAX ON YOUR BALLOT. Be sure to VOTE!
Illinois is already among the highest tax states. Here is the wording:
BALLOT QUESTION: Proposition To Impose County School Sales Tax💲
***Shall a retailers' occupation tax and a service occupation tax (commonly referred to as a sales tax) be imposed in The County of Lake, Illinois. at a rate of 1% to be used exclusively for schoof facility purposes, school resource officers, and mental health professionals?***
I analyzed enrollment trends in the area public schools & sharing this with the public. With only a few exceptions enrollment in all school districts serving Lake County students is materially down the past 10 years. Spending across these districts for the same time period increased an average of 3.9% or removing inflation .7% on enrollment decline of 11%.
I will be voting 🗳️ NO to this added 1% tax. I believe expenses should be analyzed from locally produced bottom-up school budgeting including enrollment trends & not from top-down, broad stroke permanent retail taxes.
