Been on the road this week hearing about everything from food insecurity to diesel costs to local water treatment plants. Spending time hearing from Virginians is the most important part of my job. Next up… Hampton Roads!
Remember – in just one year as president, Trump raked in over $2 billion in personal wealth.
He’s left the rest of country dealing with devastating health care and food assistance cuts, spiking gas prices, and inflation on everything else you buy.
$15 million+ of your tax dollars wasted because Trump gave a sweetheart deal to a favorite contractor who messed it up. Just more waste, fraud, and abuse from this administration.
NEW: Inflation came in even higher this month.
Trump ran on lowering costs. He’s spent his entire term doing everything he can to spike them.
Ended my day today in Roanoke at Feeding Southwest Virginia. Across the country, we’re facing a mounting food insecurity crisis as tariffs and the war combine to spike food costs and Trump’s draconian SNAP cuts hit. We must reverse these policies & support our local food banks.
A beautiful day dropping off $1 million to restore the historic Montvale School into a new community space! I’m proud to fight for local projects like this, which will help deliver important workforce development opportunities and other services to Bedford County.
More than seven months into Trump’s war of choice, there’s still no end in sight. Instead, the threat of escalation is growing.
The American people have already paid far too high a price for this war. It’s time to bring it to an end.
Trump’s war of choice has cost American families an extra $2000, driving up everything from mortgage rates and airfares to the price of gas and other everyday essentials.
Great to be at Randolph College to see some of their recent renovations and drop off funding for new lab equipment! It’s great to be able to connect students & faculty at colleges across Virginia with the resources they need to succeed.
Happy 251st birthday to the U.S. Navy! Thank you to all the sailors serving in Virginia and around the world for your extraordinary sacrifice and dedication to keeping America safe. We are grateful for all that you do. Hooyah!
Hurt’s so good! It was great to drop off $8.3 million for the Hurt Water Treatment Plant today. I’ll always fight for big funding for every community across the Commonwealth, no matter how big or how small.
Trump’s reckless war of choice has sent gas and diesel prices soaring. Now the president is turning to Putin to bail him out, even if it means bankrolling Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine.
A pleasure to be in Farmville today talking about public education, small businesses, and the soaring cost of diesel. It’s so important to me to hear how I can help get key federal funding and cut red tape for communities across the Commonwealth.
Once again, Trump does a massive giveaway to an authoritarian leader.
Isn’t it so weird that he’s willing to hurt anyone — including Americans struggling with the enormous costs of his war — but bends over backwards for Vladimir Putin?
The Fort Hood shooting was a horrific act of violence that took 13 innocent lives and devastated military families. The perpetrator was convicted and sentenced to death, and nothing changes the gravity of his crimes. But there is a fundamental difference between carrying out a lawful sentence and turning an execution into a public spectacle.
Public executions are the hallmark of authoritarian regimes like Iran and North Korea, not the United States of America. There is a reason that almost no countries in the world engage in this barbaric practice. Beyond the profound moral concerns, a public execution could hand terrorist organizations a propaganda victory, fuel radicalization, and put American service members, diplomats, and citizens overseas at greater risk. Justice for the victims does not require creating unnecessary threats to our national security.
Unfortunately, this is part of a much broader pattern. From proposing public executions to threatening to interfere in our elections, President Trump continues to challenge the principles and practices that distinguish America from authoritarian regimes. With the election just weeks away, I am particularly concerned about his willingness to abuse the powers of the federal government to interfere with how Americans cast their ballots and how those votes are counted. Free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy, and we cannot allow the United States to go down the path of countries where those in power decide whether and how elections take place.
Trumpflation is hitting American families hard, forcing them to pay more than $3,000 extra for everyday essentials like gas, groceries, housing, and more.
We owe it to the families who lost loved ones in last year’s midair collision near DCA to enact meaningful reforms that make our skies safer. The Army’s and the National Transportation Safety Board’s reports underscore the urgent need to modernize our air traffic control systems, improve aircraft visibility and collision avoidance technology, strengthen coordination between military and civilian aviation authorities, and address overcrowding at DCA. Congress must pass the ROTOR Act and my DCA Air Safety Act with @SenTimKaine to address critical safety gaps and prevent a tragedy like this from happening again.
Trump is ramping up his attacks on Lisa Cook in his latest attempt to undermine the independence of the Federal Reserve. Instead of focusing on lowering costs for American families, the president is once again showing that he’s more interested in political theater that threatens further economic uncertainty.
